I saw this and immediately thought of John Wesley Powell.

Interesting. I like this idea. Do you have any sort of rule on penmanship? How do you assign points if you can’t read what they’ve scribbled in a notebook? I can hardly read my own chicken scratch sometimes.

If I have a personal website, would my Omeka mapping project integrate/be hosted on that, or would I need to set up/purchase a new website/domain? I’m trying to build a digital archive with an interactive map, but I’m also quite DH illiterate.

What’s the difference between S and classic? Unfortunately my project would just be by myself and no institutional support, which I think was why I might have been gravitating toward classic.

I mean, I don’t focus on it specifically, but I do write about lead, copper, and iron mining/smelting in two of my chapters. I’d be happy to try to help with any questions you might have.

There’s an awesome, albeit somewhat apocryphal (I think), story of Brown in Pennsylvania in the 1820s. Some settlers tried to rally him to help drive Native people off their lands and he basically replied with β€œI’d sooner take my gun and help drive you out of the country.”

I have a former student interested in researching JFK, particularly his assassination and Lee Harvey Oswald. This is admittedly not my area of expertise and I know that the topic of JFK is rife with conspiracies, but does anyone have any solid books/articles I could share with them?

Pretty sure mine is Alan Taylor with 7.

We learned last month that the State of Iowa will no longer fund or publish their peer-reviewed journal Annals of Iowa, which is now looking for an institutional home. Here we share our letter of concern, and we hope others will join us in supporting state and local history! πŸ—ƒοΈ 🧡
