I will say there's nothing more satisfying in game design than the moment when all of the little things and issues you were thinking about all while talking to the other devs click together and it all just comes pouring forth.

Your work may be part of you, but you are not your work. If you confuse the two, you can become the sort of person that takes all feedback as a personal attack and that will ultimately stop you from growing as a creative

iirc all modern phone pictures are fake anyway, there are actual physical limits to what we can do with lenses that have to be that thin so pretty much all modern phones with 'good cameras' just have an image gen AI to predict what something actually is or looks like. It's why I rarely take selfies.

I just think it's funny that the brand perception of AI images is equal with bad in a generic way art now, but I personally already despised the sorta naturalistic/realistic art style imagegen models are largely trained on outside of anime styles (because they're both overly common).

I'm a real big fan of stories where it feels like things are happening outside of you and you are only briefly intersecting with other people's stories and Citizen Sleeper 2 certainly delivers, I am genuinely surprised at how tense the game's contracts feel though despite you know, being dice rolls.

Personally I'd wait a few months to play it because there's some later game areas that feels a little undercooked that he's working on, but I recommend buying now if only because imagine how good it feels to see the 'copies sold' number go up as someone working on a fever dream project for 5 years.

If you love reading, good character interactions and just exploring a setting for the sake of it then honestly I can't help but recommend it as someone who sat down for 10 hours straight to get the secret ending.

But when it comes to a story and setting it is very much a vibes game ngl, one of the reasons why I'm shilling it this much is because he went with the kinda style of exposition I like where it's just vaguely tracing the shape of the world around them in little bits for the most part.

But because the visual and storytelling language it uses and the tone it sets fits perfectly with that era right down to the relative abundance of gross, cringe, or sad perverted men who thankfully largely don't reach that era's usual standards and aren't glorified or normalized in the slightest.

It is very important that you think of it not as a video game but as a playable manga or anime not because the game itself is bad per say (there's balancing issues rn that makes the late game trivial if you do all of the sidequests).

Artis Impact is one dev's fever dream decision to render what should have been a shonen manga in the 1980s-1990s or a 1990s-2000s OVA into a JRPG video game that reaches about as close to Yakuza levels of 'do whatever sidequests and event chains' a single guy apparently can make in 5 years.

Played a bit of @artis-impact.bsky.social and it's sleek, it's stylish, it's fun, and I can't help but wonder how much casual misogyny the dev has to deal with regularly. Can't wait to play it some more later though.

I think my biggest gripe with the story is that the narrative stakes fell off a cliff at some point. We went from 'OH GOD OH FUCK NO ONE HAS EVER HAD TO FIGHT THESE MANY DEMONS BEFORE EVEN ONE COULD HAVE KILLED US ALL BEFORE' back to 'You beat Orville', but the difficulty kept ramping.

Tamám shud. A plot element in one of the 20s chapters infuriated me so much that I had to finish Dark Deity 2 in one last sitting or I would throw it away forever. I had fun for most of the game at least despite the plot, 4/7 game, maybe 3.

The soundtrack reminds me of that time I tried converting one of my collages to a sound file and listened to the resulting MP4.

Like it's both too minor to not feel a little petty to avoid the entire game over it like I am, but also minor enough that I can't help but wonder why they'd even bother to do it this way to begin with? Like most icons are archetypical enough that I'm amazed that they found a new way to mess it up.

My brother in Christ you could probably buy that online for about as much money as most image gen AI licenses would set you back for, or literally just ask your apparently preexisting and non AI using artists to do it in their cool ass style?

But while scrolling down to look at the reviews to learn more about it, I noticed that it was marked as having AI generated content for the icons and text background images and like dude why?
