Got a talk tomorrow on the history of gatekeeping in UK trans+care, & it's heartbreaking. Despite the way diagnostic language & approaches to care have vastly evolved/improved, Services remain largely unchanged. Progress has not dismantled the systems in place under the guise of safeguarding.

One of the clearest examples I've seen of Betteridge's law of headlines - "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no"

I'm doing an LGBT History Month event where I'm talking about the history of gatekeeping for trans+ healthcare, & how it creates a significant barrier to good standards of care. Just worked out when I do it I'll have been on the NHS waiting list for 3066 days which rather proves the point I'm making

Kicked off trans awareness week with an LGBT+ healthcare session for medical undergraduates alongside @traceycollett.bsky.social and the brilliant Emma Marsh. Always a pleasure to talk about trans+ care with such an engaged group who understand the value of inclusive and equitable healthcare

After a break I returned to academia in July, and I'm currently being allocated postgrad research supervisor roles.

It's hard to share the joy and enthusiasm new researchers have when they talk about their work. Makes me grateful I took the opportunity to come back.

Bodily autonomy should always be a societal norm. I still can't understand how anyone feels they have the right to dictate this stuff to anyone. My body, my choice.

GIRES has agreed to endorse this research recruitment study to understand how psychological therapy for trans people can be improved. This project has been developed closely with trans people with lived experience of mental health difficulties.
