You are so accurate, it hurts. I’m right now building a macOS app to help me clip videos to share. I find everything else out here too complicated for me. I certainly intend to market it when I’m done. I have wanted it for more than a year.

Rondos show how structure builds freedom.
BarΓ§a’s famous rondos teach timing, positioning, and collective intuition.

See this clip: Lamine ➑️ Ferran ➑️ Lewa β€” perfect sequence, still no goal.

Even the best patterns fail sometimes.
That’s football. That’s business.

πŸ‘‰ Maybe the most powerful light
is the one that never draws attention to itself.

It just shows up.
Every single day.

In a world that’s fast, loud, and disposable…
This bulb just stays on.

A local fire chief once said:
β€œThat light bulb is dependable.
It has done its job since 1901.”

It was never meant to be sacred.
But over time, it became something close:

β€’ It watched over fire crews through the night
β€’ Survived neglect, relocations, and outages
β€’ Even outlasted the webcams built to watch it

In Livermore, California, there’s another flame β€”
Only it takes the form of a light bulb.

πŸ’‘ Installed in 1901.
Still shining today.

In Catholic tradition, there's something called a sanctuary lamp.
πŸ•―οΈ It burns continuously in churches to signify something sacred.

A church has a sanctuary lamp.
A fire station in California has a 124-year-old lightbulb.

Both were lit for different reasons.
But both became sacred. 🧡

End /

You can do everything right.
And still not win.
So choose effort for its own sake.
And let go of the rest.

Sometimes you build the machine perfectly…
And the world still says:
β€œNo.”

The Stoics said it clearly:
You don’t control outcomes.
You only control effort.
Your labor.
Your discipline.
Your intention.

Here’s the truth:
Control is an illusion.
You can prepare.
You can spend.
You can plan.
But the world owes you nothing.

All that money.
All that planning.
All that pressure.

And still β€” it flops.
Another artist drops a surprise single.
It dominates.
The carefully engineered one disappears.

Studio rentals.
Vocal coaches.
Writing camps.
Promotions.
Private flights.
Everything choreographed so a stranger hums it in line at the supermarket.

$78,000 goes out before the artist even enters the studio.
$1 million more to make sure you hear it β€”
on the radio, in the car, at the mall.

Thread: The $1 Million Gamble
(on attention, control, and the Stoic acceptance of fate)

It costs over $1.2 million to create one summer hit.
Not a song that changes the world.
Not a chart-topper.
Just a song that might work.

From the outside looking in, you’d think that market is saturated but from the story, there’s always room for one more.

On to my 2nd point, the newsletter has become more regular (with sponsors too). Big up man

I think the argument here is to figure out how or why the business grew that much without marketing. Probably spending more there would be better use of the money.

Thank you for this piece. It’s so comforting now that I’m right in the middle of SaaS drudgery. With a few paying business clients it certainly has value. Should I stick to the niche or broaden it? Should I stick to my local market or try acquire users beyond these borders (or continent)?

Hmm, this is interesting. Might it have had something to do with the 2008 Financial Crisis, then a couple of years for the authors to internalise and suggest new ways forward?

If that’s the case should we expect post-US-liberation day books on doing tariff-resilient business in 2028?

The site was down last night (my time) or at least part of it. I wanted to say so, decided to give it another go right now before doing so and voila, it’s working. I suppose my comment isn’t necessary now
