Sending troops from Texas to forcefully occupy and suppress cities in Illinois and Oregon IN OPPOSITION TO THOSE STATES' GOVERNORS is literally a civil war and it's cooking my brain that Democrats are simply pretending it isn't happening

It’s been dissected to death, but just one more thing: U.S. cities are under attack right now by ICE & the militaryβ€” fascist jackboots aligned with dangerous people like Jesse Singal, an inciter of real-world violence. Pretty crazy week for @jay.bsky.team to crown him the most important user here.

One of the things we are going to have to be very, very aware of is that a lot of people who are being heavily armed right now will simply not be willing to accept the results of a democratic election because they will go to jail.

the "who will the public blame for the shutdown?" handwringing is asinine. the vast majority of voters have no idea how government shutdowns work, and by the time midterms roll around they won't remember anything that didn't impact them directly

I continue to think that one of the reasons this country is falling apart is the wholesale abandonment of public virtue as a broadly shared aspiration. Or even something people should be embarrassed about if they don’t have it.

The wounded knee thing is really Trumpism distilled to its essence. It’s not enough to be able crush people who can’t fully defend themselves, it’s not enough to actually crush them, you also have to love and admire those who do the crushing otherwise the Trumpists’ delicate feelings are injured

I'm really interested in the psychology of the masked up ICE agent with the Facebook camera glasses who also appears to be wearing a "Don't Tread on Me" Gadsden Flag. Is it meant ironically? How does he square current ICE targets and tactics with the ethos the flag has traditionally represented?

This attack on our communities is bad for DC and dangerous for the country.

To the unions, grassroots groups, justice organizations, and voters who support these members of Congress, be sure to let them know this is not the leadership you want.

there's a weird feedback loop where the media's reaction to kirk's death pushes you to speak more ill of the dead than you otherwise would because it's the only reasonable response to the simpering praise they're heaping on him

I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!

"Just the other day, I was in the audience at Lincoln Center when Justice Amy Coney Barrett said, while promoting a new book, that she doesn't think the United States is in a constitutional crisis," Farias told us. "Today, the Supreme Court, without offering a single line of reasoning, more or less declared that the Fourth Amendment, which protects everyone from unreasonable searches and seizures, nonetheless allows the Trump Administration to arrest and detain anyone who looks Latino, citizen or not, on account of the language that they speak or the kind of jobs they do. The ruling putatively covers the Los Angeles area, but the effect could be national," he continued.
