it doesn't seem like too much to ask for at least a brief moratorium on "centrist" Dems knifing their own party members while Trump is attempting to pass the worst piece of legislation since the Fugitive Slave Act

SCOTUS allows Trump admin to send eight men to South Sudan with no process Sotomayor, joined by Jackson, dissented, calling their colleagues' actions in the case "indefensible." It was one of several alarming signs for the nation on the Third of July.

What new horror did the Supreme Court unleash this afternoon?

At @lawdorknews.bsky.social, I explain: β€œIn short, seven justices are allowing eight people to be sent to South Sudan.”

A militarized secret police force with more funding than our actual military and without accountability to anyone is certainly a thing a tyrant would want.

I've got a lot of data on the new Trump budget bill coming out tomorrow at 8:00 AM Eastern at gelliottmorris.com/subscribe/. This will be the most unpopular law in at least the last 30 years. And what a disgrace.

03.07.2025 18:40 β€” πŸ‘ 578    πŸ” 176    πŸ’¬ 14    πŸ“Œ 15

β€œCongress” didn’t pass this murder budget.

Republicans did it.

Republicans did it without a single Democratic vote in the House, without a single Democratic vote in the Senate.

Be precise and give, uh, credit where credit is due

I keep getting some combination of this post despite multiple explanations about it. So again:

Hospitals operationalize Medicaid finances far into the future. Budget cuts, layoffs, project cancellations, closures, etc. will begin -immediately.-

Jeffries: "As a result of the all-out Republican assault on healthcare, people will die. Tens of thousands, perhaps year after year, as a result of the Republican assault on the healthcare of the American people. I'm sad. I never thought that I'd be on the House floor saying this is a crime scene"

When your neighbor on the left is being dragged away by masked men and your neighbor on the right can't get an X-ray for their child, be sure to quickly explain that "both parties are the same" and whatnot.

The GOP passed a budget that will eviscerate health care in rural areas. They delayed much of the impact for after the midterms, hoping the public will think any discussion of the impending collapse is hyperbolic.

Local reporters have a chance to do service journalism that'll make a splash too.

03.07.2025 18:53 β€” πŸ‘ 5607    πŸ” 1617    πŸ’¬ 170    πŸ“Œ 65

The fiscal conservatives in the GOP just added $4 trillion to the deficit to give the wealthiest people on earth a tax cut. The pro-family party just took healthcare away from 17 million Americans to give ICE a bigger budget than Brazil’s military. The single most inhumane bill ever passed.

03.07.2025 18:34 β€” πŸ‘ 8603    πŸ” 2950    πŸ’¬ 313    πŸ“Œ 124

This bill is an act of war by the billionaires and their white nationalist allies against the people of the United States.

It will take health care from millions of people to fund tax cut for billionaires, secret police to arrest the President’s critics, and concentration camps.

It’s fascism.

03.07.2025 18:51 β€” πŸ‘ 2576    πŸ” 808    πŸ’¬ 40    πŸ“Œ 29

AOC is exactly right; we're going to see ICE used to fill concentration camps with immigrants and opponents of the regime.

It's going to happen on an industrial scale that's in line with examples we associate with the worst regimes of the 20th century.

It's happening here.

03.07.2025 19:02 β€” πŸ‘ 529    πŸ” 175    πŸ’¬ 11    πŸ“Œ 2

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Sharp new response from Zohran Mamdani, hitting back at Trump's threats:

"His statements...attempt to send a message to every New Yorker who refuses to hide in the shadows: if you speak up, they will come for you. We will not accept this intimidation."

02.07.2025 15:40 β€” πŸ‘ 3142    πŸ” 624    πŸ’¬ 31    πŸ“Œ 56

The more I think about this statement the more remarkable it is. Zohran Mamdani is basically saying: If you threaten immigrants with your secret police, you're threatening all of us. Very solidaristic. Dems can learn from this.

They want people to die. They think those people deserve it.

They're *betting* that five decades of respectability politics means that they'll do it *quietly.*

2) they are building concentration camps and concentration camps are the right words to use
3) they are banning books and book bans is a fine way to describe the myriad ways they are banning them

AOC: "On this point of tax on tips, as one of the only people in this body who has lived off of tips, I want to tell you a little bit about the scam ... the cap on that is $25,000 while you're jacking up taxes on people who make less than $50,000 across the US ... while kicking them off the ACA."

The Liberal Misinformation Bubble About Youth Gender Medicine
How the left ended up disbelieving the science

The Liberal Misinformation Bubble About Youth Gender Medicine How the left ended up disbelieving the science By Helen Lewis

β€œWe often ask parents, β€˜Would you rather have a dead son than a live daughter?’” Johanna Olson-Kennedy of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles once explained to ABC News. Variations on the phrase crop up in innumerable media articles and public statements by influencers, activists, and LGBTQ groups. The same ideaβ€”that the choice is transition or deathβ€”appeared in the arguments made by Elizabeth Prelogar, the Biden administration’s solicitor general, before the Supreme Court last year. Tennessee’s law prohibiting the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat minors with gender dysphoria would, she said, β€œincrease the risk of suicide.”

But there is a huge problem with this emotive formulation: It isn’t true. When Justice Samuel Alito challenged the ACLU lawyer Chase Strangio on such claims during oral arguments, Strangio made a startling admission. He conceded that there is no evidence to support the idea that medical transition reduces adolescent suicide rates.

The "misinformation" in question here is that gender-affirming care reduces suicides among youth. It merely reduces depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal ideation.

Meanwhile, the people passing these laws constantly make false claims: 80% of kids detransition, teens are getting hormones for identifying as rocks, minors receive surgeries without their parents’ consent. Laughable!

These are people that *you admit* are banning care that helps struggling kids.
