Shame the book doesn't mention why Simon Taylor got jettisoned from the coverage after 1997, I remember the gossip was he got squeezed out for being *too* knowledgeable, but that might have been early 2000s forum gossip.

Apparently both Carlton and MACh1 (Meridian, Anglia and Chysalis) had seperate bids in for the F1, Carlton had Jim attached, MACh1 had Rider. It was expected that Carlton would get it but MaCH1 landed it, but then Steve turned it down, the screentests happened, and then ITV decided they wanted Jim.
