Realist Review of Middle Range Theories (MRT). We will seek to understand how MRTs can be used to create causal explanations about how complex interventions interact with the workforce providing them.

We will identify and examine relevant UK-wide workforce data sources to explore workforce sustainability, including staffing numbers, skill mix, workforce wellbeing and the impact of workforce factors on patient care.

We will complete a UK-wide mapping exercise to identify and characterise relevant SURGE services, data sources and intervention models. We will conduct deep dives into selected services to explore workforce organisation, challenges and sustainability.
