For years, Australians have been been installing solar panels at a rapid clip. Now that investment is paying off. The Australian government announced this week that electricity customers in three states will get free electricity for up to three hours per day starting in July 2026.

The Solar Sharer plan will be available to everyone in New South Wales, South Australia, and in the southeastern part of Queensland to start; more regions will be added later. Households won’t need to have solar on their rooftops to qualify, though they will need a smart meter installed. The plan will help those who live in apartments or don’t have a suitable rooftop to benefit from their neighbors’ panels, Bowen said.

Although the government hasn’t said which hours in the middle of the day will qualify, the hours between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. are the most likely candidates. Customers will have to opt in to the new plan, which is meant to encourage people to shift their energy use to peak solar-production hours. Smart appliances can help people make the most of this by allowing them to time charging their EVs or running loads of laundry.

How's this for energy abundance? Millions of Aussies will start receiving three hours of free power each day in 2026. This is what happens when you make rooftop solar less than a buck a watt!!

"Rooftop solar installations cost about $840 (U.S.) per kilowatt of capacity before rebates." 🀯

Right β€” I thought from the first photos that the image included text-recognition artifacts, but no: that's just what's on an exterior wall of the White House. Paper. Scotch tape and paper.

Is grandpa doing alright?

What a dummy. If he'd ever been to a grocery store, he'd know you don't have to show ID anymore. They automatically scan the chip that got implanted when you got the covid vaccine. Duh!

At this point, anyoneβ€”a university, a law firm, a corporation, a Democratβ€”bending the knee to Trump is doing it because they want to, not because of any political reality.

Maybe pundits should spend more time in densely packed, left leaning urban areas where the "real Americans" live

speaks volumes that Trump's response to tonight's resounding defeat is to demand Republicans redouble efforts to rig elections

Populist Dems won. Moderate Dems won. We won in blue states. We won in purple states.

Maybe the take is that (a) people think Trump is out of control; and (b) people like Dems when we're taking a stand and fighting for what we believe in - as we have been for the last month.

These big wins will embolden Dems to take on Trump's lawbreaking and show there's a price for GOP enabling of him. Folks hate to hear this, but normal patterns are asserting themselves: Liberalism isn't dead, Rs are likely to lose in 2026, and Trump is really unpopular, not a magical exception.

Republicans are currently starving millions of people in order to force Democrats to cooperate in cutting health care for millions of people.

We've gotten so inured to this shit. It's just monstrous, horrific behavior.

Man, I hope every Democratic area in the country has a plan for this before Nov. 2026. Heavily promote early/ absentee voting where possible, have alternate locations close by, maybe even monitor polling places for days before the election so they know if a threat is a hoax.

Dick Cheney got George W. Bush to break his promise to regulate carbon emissions, and began turning climate into a strictly partisan issue. He was always loyal to fossil fuels and that’s a huge part of his legacy.

This is enraging. Just no point to it except to stop a climate policy. And no point to stopping a climate policy except "ha ha, cry more, libs." Zero benefit to the U.S. It's not enough for them to reverse climate policy/investment here, they've also got to stop other countries from doing anything.

jfc how is it not a headline everywhere that Trump pardoned a criminal and repeatedly says he has no idea who the guy is? This is so straightforwardly him either having dementia and not remembering, blindly obeying his advisors, or being corrupt and lying. Even NYT shouldn't be able to whiff this.
