Disheartening result for the NDP. Canadians have lost some good incumbents and the opportunity for good representatives in key races. Can't help feeling like an indictment of the current iteration of the party, and showing the need to rebuild and re-engage with working class grassroots and members.

Resist American Imperialism.
Those being bullied by Yanks, don't let them win. And to everyone, within and beyond the belly of the beast, stand against Trumpist fascism wherever it rears its filthy head.
Fuck the United States. Itβs long past time the rest of the world stood up to its bullying and the way it throws around its economic weight to force other countries to act as it wants them to.
Now that US economic aggression is even hitting Western allies, will they finally rein in the US?
Time to turn off the taps.
Not a single bottle of American wine, beer or bourbon should be sold anywhere in Canada.
From here on in I will only drink "freedom" wines from Canada, France or Spain.
As for the beer? It's shit anyways.

Likewise, in a world filled with dread, with creeping conservatism and fledgling fascism and grievous genocides and instability, cherish Joy and use it to build a better world.
This was a great talk, I could only join over Zoom, but I'm glad I did!

Construction workers are like everyone: they have uneven views, mostly they want good working conditions, good social services, and to care for their families. It's up to the Left to present a convincing vision of those demands.

I've been mulling the American election over all day. Though I have many thoughts-- about how Left and 'Centrist' parties have been lurching right pursuing voters who hate them, and more-- what's far more important is organising and volunteering in my local provincial election. So I'll just do that
07.11.2024 02:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Nova Scotia ACORN - Statement on early election call by Tim Houston. We call on all parties to: - Bring Back Permanent Rent Control - Ban the Fixed Term Lease Loophole - Build and Buy Non-Market Social Housing. Join us for our provincial wide rally. November 23rd @ 11am. HFX location: Old Library Halifax, 5381 Spring Garden Road.
NS ACORN Statement on Early Election As many of you have heard, Tim Houston and his PC government have announced an early election for Tuesday November 26th, breaking his own legislation that set a fixed election Daye of July 15 2025. Houston is rushing Nova Scotians to the polls, hoping to secure a majority by dangling a 1% HST cut in front of voters. Rest assured, ACORN will not be swayed by a cut that primarily benefits the wealthiest while draining much needed funding from already underfunded social services and affordable housing. ACORN knows that this PC government has allowed the fixed term lease loophole to undermine rent control laws, forcing countless tenants to move each year as landlords hike rents. We see this election call as an opportunity to push even harder for the changes we need in Nova Scotia. ACORN is calling on all parties to prioritize the housing crisis and protest low- to moderate income residents. Our message to all party leaders is clear: to gain the support of working class tenants, we demand that all parties commit to: - BRING BACK PERMANENT RENT CONTROL - BAN THE FIXED TERM LEASE LOOPHOLE - BUY AND BUILD NON-MARKET SOCIAL HOUSING Over the next 31 days, ACORN members will be mobilizing to ensure tenants vote in their interest and make their voices heard. Let's use this election to ensure that the next government in Nova Scotia is truly committed to affordable housing and effective rent control!
NS ACORN is working on pushing permanent rent control, ending abuse of fixed term leases, and expanding affordable housing, to the front of every party and every voters mind in this election.
If you get doorstepped by a candidate or volunteer, push them on this.

I'm so annoyed with Tim Houston calling an early election. Not because it's a cynical ploy to play off of voters confusion between Federal and Provincial politics, but because it's so transparently so. Let's see where this goes...

21.09.2024 03:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0It's honestly so dystopian to spend two years researching how the financialisation of housing and disinvestment from social housing have led to the housing crisis, and to have your city councillors and province fighting over to *which* parks they should shunt unhoused people.
