It should be absolutely illegal for Google maps/Waze or whatever integrated GPS navigator is in a car to suggest a u-turn in directions point blank.

People are doing u-turns in absolutely insane places they never used to do them and it is so dangerous

You wrote the script and couldn't take 20 seconds to Google 'how to pronounce xxx' ? You can edit your audio if you need to pause while recording! It's so little effort to at least try!

Nothing riles me up like when a scripted podcaster reading the script they wrote pauses at a non-english word for a people/place/thing that is culturally important and goes 'oh I don't know how to say this' and then they say it wrong, then say 'if I said that wrong please correct me everyone uwu'

'It comes with the territory': How Israel's archaeologists legitimize annexation Weaponizing antiquities is part of Israel's colonial legacy, says Rafi Greenberg, whose colleagues have largely remained silent about Gaza's destruction.

"Archaeology in its essence does not provide that kind of certainty and purity that ethnocratic right-wing government ministers might want. So they have to invent it."

I heard about TB boats when working in NL outports and heard them describe the boats as coming in with a bell, and

THE NAKBA AND CULTURAL ERASURE: ISRAELI ARCHAEOLOGYโ€™S ROLE

THE NAKBA AND CULTURAL ERASURE: ISRAELI ARCHAEOLOGYโ€™S ROLE Israeli archaeology is a keystone of the colonial project. Co-opted in the creation of national identity, territorial claims, and expansionist policies, its policy of deliberate erasure cannot be separated from the ongoing Nakba.

โ€œAfter the formation of a large army in the wake of the establishment of the state, we will abolish partition and expand to the whole of Palestine.โ€
Ben-Gurion

Once the Israeli state had established itself in Palestine, it quickly set about excavating sites in search of evidence corroborating biblical stories, acting as justification for a โ€œreturnโ€ to the region by the โ€œJewish Nationโ€. Since before the Nakba, Jewish people from across the world were encouraged to come to Palestine and join in the construction of the nascent zionist state. Israelโ€™s aim was to not only construct a Jewish-supremacist country, but also a national identity that would unite all Jewish people, recently arrived from countries as diverse as Russia and Australia, Yemen and South Africa.

In the territory the Zionists had ethnically cleansed, cultural erasure of Palestinian life began. Place names were changed to Hebrew names, and connected with locations mentioned in the Bible. If archaeology could be used to fabricate a link between one place (Palestinian) with another (biblical), even better.

Much like the biblical archaeology of its Western counterparts, early Israeli archaeology sought to prove the veracity of biblical stories, particularly connected with Jewish history in the region. Other periods were ignored or erased, either being neglected, going unexcavated, or being dug through to reach earlier levels. Israeli archaeologists were very quick to find evidence that supported their narrative. As one would expect, when a projectโ€™s research aims not only seek to confirm a source incorrectly believed to be 100% historical fact, but also seek to affirm the very basis for a stateโ€™s territorial claims and its national identity.

The problem with the idea that the modern state of Israel has a god-given right to the biblical territory of the Israelites, is that this territory is not defined. In fact, even if one were to except the bizarre logic that Israelโ€™s borders should be defined by the Old Testament, even this is not clear. In three different books, three distinct regions are โ€œpromisedโ€, with different parts of the territory of Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt included. This is reflected in the publications of German-born Israeli archaeologist Yohanan Aharoni, who invented a Biblical landscape for the kingdoms of David and Solomon, and mapped it on top of the geographical reality. Both the publications and the author supported the idea of a Greater Israel, which would include territory reaching into the aforementioned countries. As do many of Israelโ€™s most extremist politicians, who are currently in power (e.g. war criminal Bezalel Smotrich).

Lists both him and his wife, and his daughter wanted to keep the old stone so she put it in the yard. So odds of there being anything more than a cool stone are VERY low, but I am still waiting on the cemetery to let me know they have burial records so I can keep gardening.

The house was built in 1920, and the two neighbour's houses were built 1919. No one associated with this guy lived in this house until 1933 - 13 years after he died. My best guess is that when his wife passed in 1939 they got a new stone for a shared plot where he is buried in the cemetery that

Obviously we stopped digging once the stone was uncovered and started doing research! This guy's death record says he was buried at 'Hamilton Mount' and also that he lived on a different street about 1km away from us, his wife conitued to live there until 1939.

Cordelia also #1 good character, very clueless, annoying that she left the show to be on Angel because that means I have to watch Angel for her sake.

Anya is also phenomenal, she deserved so much better in her story arc - should've axed Xander to keep her ๐Ÿ˜ค

I'm just getting through to the end of watching Buffy for the first time and my main takeaway is that Angel is incredibly boring, no imagination. Boring, broody for no reason.

Spike though? Outstanding! He HATES being in love but he just can't stop! Phenomenal tv!

Kitchener Center results are a prime example of why 'strategic voting' is harmful rhetoric!

People voted for liberals instead of the Green candidate who has a very strong community presence because they were afraid of the conservatives, and now a conservative has won the riding.

Good:

* Poilievre isn't Prime Minister.
* Poilevre lost his own seat.

Bad:

* Everything has shifted substantially rightward.
* 40% of popular vote and +20 seats for Cons.
* Basically a two-party parliament of centre right and far right.
* Left leaning parties wiped out.
