There is a certain slant of light,
winter afternoons—
that annoys, like the blinds
of weird-assness—

A dumb thing about winter is that it’s so dark, but when we do have light, it comes in at this weird-ass angle so I have to close the blinds during meetings

I don’t mean to brag but I have the dumbest schedule of meetings today.

Like, the meetings are good, but the timing is wackadoo.

There’s no way anyone at Apple has ever even opened this garbage fire of an app. It’s comfortably the worst of the main streaming services, at least on AppleTV.

I feel like this year’s edition of EA FC (“FIFA”) has wayyyyyy more deeply problematic players distributed in packs than in previous seasons

Regardless of how much/little is accomplished in a week, this is my exact feeling after submitting the list of weekly accomplishments.

My new seasonal obsession is that CT/Western MA are going to have another “cold enough to feel bitter, nowhere near cold enough to freeze the ticks” winter.

Granola offering me “Granola Crunched,” a Wrapped-style set of stats about my meetings, is surely some sort of low in this space.

(“You have 6.1x more meetings than the average user in the Academic/Research category” is not a flex.)

Every use-case people think they "need" and LLM for is actually papering over a different issue. The teacher using ChatGPT to write narrative reports bc the demand is unreasonable & overwhelming *actually* needs more support and/or compensation or a reduction of demand. It's a LABOR issue.

Or, talk to your students as they come back from internships about the different kinds of AI-related tasks they’re being asked to do.

Or read 10 further slides in the NACE deck where it says at least 40% of employers are on the path to augmenting entry-level jobs with AI.

I can’t put my finger on why, but “Feel free to pause me with any questions” is much more upsetting than “Feel free to interrupt at any time”

It’s also what employers & students are saying, is the hard bit.

And plus everyone is very lazy and happy to fall back on talking points that feel well-understood

Much less so than you’d think, and “platforms and pilots” is one of my major areas of responsibility.

Vendors do say that, but vendors do say lots of things. Employers saying “gotta be AI-ready” and students coming back from internships reporting on expectations … it’s motivating!

It’s because every single employer who hires interns/co-ops/new grads is demanding it, or at least saying loudly they are prioritizing AI readiness in such roles. That’s the signal they’re responding to.

Pop girlies face a choice between nostalgia (Sabrina Carpenter, Tate Mccrae, Doja Cat, Chappell) and accelerationism (Charli, fka twigs, Grimes). Only Dua Lipa has managed Hegelian synthesis on the album Future Nostalgia

one year of tfa does not give you the right to call yourself a teacher and it drives me insane that this stolen valor is one of the primary outputs of tfa (besides union busting)

I can’t listen to them anymore because back in the day A & I played the blue live record as white noise at night, and so now I just involuntarily fall asleep.

I’m at an age when I have to guard carefully against nostalgia—I agree with @judgejohnhodgman.bsky.social that it’s mostly a toxic impulse

With that said, I will be watching the new HBO Counting Crows documentary time and time again this long December
