First panel above showing tentacles throwing a guy down to the ground, while water trickles down at the entrance of a cave. The next three panels next to each other below show a giant face carved in stone, while the man in loincloth in front of it is slowly getting up and walking away in front of it.

we have gone from a world in which we were told not to cite wikipedia because it was unreliable to a world where wikipedia might be the only reliable source left on the internet and we all owe a lot to the pedantic nerds who got us there

Welp, just in time for another great depression. Now, some people may think only the U.S will feel it. But 100 years ago, when the world was way less connected, the depression affected nearly every other country on earth. So, as a Jamaican-Canadian, I am gonna start buying hard hats from now.

I'm pleased that they've done this.

(Although the cynic in me thinks they've seen the tea leaves about copyright and the bubble and basically that people think AI imagery and writing is shite. They could have declared this ages ago)

Experts raise privacy concerns over Michigan bill targeting pornography and VPNs Rep. Josh Schriver, the bill’s sponsor, says the law is designed to target only producers and distributors of pornography, not everyday internet users.

Buried in Michigan's antiporn bill is a provision to effectively outlaw "circumvention tools," such as VPNs.

Mark my words: legislators will increasingly leverage porn panic to restrict or ban VPNs, and to limit internet privacy far beyond adult sites.

The Hays Code dies with a strangled whimper and atomic horror settles into undead fallout. Ramshackle, clumsy as it is genius and sharp. Blocking as precise as clockwork cutting, harshly, to handheld panic attacks and guerrilla frenzy. It’s fucking amazing. It’s just full stop fucking amazing.

A letter from STANLEY KUBRICK

Dear James,
It has come to my attention that you and your
studio are considering producing a sequel to "2001:
A Space Odyssey" over my objections. My attorney informs me that you hold the option and, legally. there is little I can do to stop you.
However, I'd like you to know that I own the tapir bone prop from 2001 - the one "Moonwatcher" throws into the sky. If you attempt to make a sequel, I will cram that temur up your ass so far, it will take an as yet undiscovered alien super-intelligence to figure out how to dislodge it. Seriously, don't fuck with me.
Best regards,
Stanley Kubrick

Considering how they treated (and continue to treat) the Japanese-Brazilians who moved to Japan over the last few decades, none of this is very shocking.

For the longest time I wondered why the comic font Whizbang has such an intense italic slant. Way more than most italic variants. Then I realized that it was a near-exact match for John Costanza's lettering and he just did that. Lol at how strong that shear is!

In β€œPeanuts,” Snoopy first appeared as the WWI flying ace 60 years ago, on October 10, 1965. (I’d wager that, thanks to Peanuts, the Sopwith Camel is the only WWI airplane most people can name.) Here’s the debut of the flying ace and his biplane, before the many battles with the Red Baron.

Pundits today: it's time for us to have a serious conversation about whether we should be ground into nutritional paste for rich people's pets
