In the end of the battle the enemy commander was overwhelmed and defeated. Huzzah!

Yes, we played 20 per side and had a game learning the rules and chatting in about 2 hours. You could certainly play with more and we used a half sized table - so got stuck in pretty quickly.

First attempt at them went pretty well. Had an interesting game with very little head scratching. A nice command mechanism. Similar sized forces to Barons Wars. Certainly worth a look and playing a few more times.

The rules are Strength and Honour. Figures are 2mm from Warbases apart from the specials like the Witch King, siege towers, and Mumakil... Not my work, but an excellent game.

The attacking unit do indeed halve their combat rating when attacking over a linear obstacle.

Off the top of my head the defending unit maintains their normal combat score, so defending a linear obstacle is pretty easy and attacking across one is challenging!

Not quite. They were enveloped in two directions. Ironically it was the weight and mass of their own troops that were pressing in that caused a lot of them to be crushed with nowhere to go. I imagine it a bit like one of those horrific disasters at football stadiums or pilgrimages… horrible!

No. The unit that is pushed back cannot move backwards and is disordered. The unit they are pushed back into is not disordered.

Very much so! The initial attack went very well as the Roman vanguard was overwhelmed and surrounded. But then too many troops crowded in and it became difficult to manoeuvre. The Roman rearguard then piled into the rear of the enveloping Carthaginians! An absolute mess ensued!

The brutal finale of our second Strength and Honour game at the Lardy day ended up with an outrageous melee of about 40,000 troops packed into an area about 1km squared hacking each other to pieces! With little room to manoeuvre the Carthaginians were pressed in and slaughtered!

IABSM run by the infamous Turner Mob😂. Great table & minis, a tough scenario for the Brits, more Tiger tanks than I have ever seen on a table! We bagged 2 of them, the others made a mess of my platoon! Great Lardy day all round
