House Tree - Gator Days

Panel 1 Ember and Grace are at day care. Along the wall is a print that was intended to contain the alphabet but thanks to a mistake was printed with the text "ERROR! TEXT NOT FOUND! DO NOT PRINT!". No one was fired for this blunder and it will happen again. Ember has noticed that her friend Grace looks a little sad. She investigates. Ember: GRACE? WHY YOU LOOKING SAD? Grace: I was told I'm getting too chunky. Panel 2 Ember is furious that someone would dare tell her good friend that she is growing too big. Ember is ready to throw down in order to correct this injustice. Ember: WHO SAID THAT? I'LL FIGHT THEM! Grace: My Grandma. Panel 3 Ember: WHAT! Ember's eyes narrow in anger. How could Grace's own family commit such a wicked betrayal? Ember now knows what must be done. Panel 4 Ember gently puts her hand on Grace's arm. Ember: SHE HAS FAILED YOU! I'LL BE YOUR GRANDMA! Grace: I... Umm... Okay. Grace is overlwhelmed by Ember's declaration of familial relation. While not entirely sure how to process this moment, she is internally grateful that her friend cares so deeply for her.

Grace - Gator Days

Panel 1 Daryl, the ever attentive father, has noticed that his daughter hasn't been around all day. Now that he needs someone to take out the garbage, he must investigate. Daryl: Seth, where's Hannah? Seth: Playing at a friend's house. Panel 2 Daryl: Why don't they play here? Seth: One of her friends got a ping pong table. Panel 3 Daryl becomes suspiciously quiet as he turns to his phone. The quiet being suspicious is an impressive feat for an individual who is quiet the vast majority of the time. Panel 4 Daryl: I ordered a ping pong table. Seth: DARYL! Daryl: And an air hockey table. Seth: It's not a competition.

Table Time - Gator Days

Panel 1 Olivia and Gustopher are backstage in an auditorium. Olivia looks a little nervous but Gustopher is full of confidence. Olivia: Your part is coming up. Are you nervous? Gustopher: Nah, it's an easy short scene. Anyone can do it. Panel 2 Out in the audience, the families of the cast are watching the play. August is thinking to himself. August: I can't believe my son is in a play. I could never be brave enough to do this. Panel 3 The stage is shown. Hannah is carefully walking into the scene with a cane in hand. She was cast as the lead and has spent uncountable hours perfecting her grumpy face with her Papa. Gustopher has also entered the scene and is lighting the street lamps with a piece of cardboard representing fire. It was noted to the audience in the program that no actual fire would be used in tonight's performance. A relief to anyone who remembers the incident of 1995. Panel 4 Back to the audience, August looks up at the stage in amazement. He's amazed at how fast his son is growing. He's amazed at all the different things his son is able to do. Most of all, he's amazed at how his son is becoming his own person. He's doing things that August himself would have never thought to try. He has the potential to do so many things and he's already putting himself out there and doing them. One more thought forms in August's head. August: I'm so proud of him.

Christmas Play - Gator Days

Panel 1 An energetic Gustopher approaches Douglas. Gustopher: DOUGLAS! We're playing tag! Wanna play? Douglas: No, that's a childish game. Panel 2 Gustopher proceeds to play tag with his friends. He's currently chasing after Olivia and the two look like they haven't a care in the world. Douglas sits on a bench, staring intensely at the other children playing and thinking to himself. Douglas: They look so silly. Running all over. Panel 3 Now Gustopher is being chased by Hannah. She wasn't actually playing, Gustopher brushed against her while pursuing someone else and she instantly recognized this as designating her as being "it". Now Gustopher can only flee in terror with the recognition that Hannah will not be stopped and his being tagged isn't a matter of if, but when. Oh, and Douglas is still on the bench thinking to himself. Douglas: So immature. Screaming. Laughing. Acting like little kids. Panel 4 The focus is on Douglas. He starts fidgeting a little and looks away from the others and thinks. Douglas: I wish I said yes.

Childish Games - Gator Days

Panel 1 Hannah is at the door of her next door neighbor, Mrs. Woolly. Mrs. Woolly: HANNAH! Please come on in. Hannah: Hello, Mrs. Woolly. Papa said you need help with your dog. Panel 2 Hannah is sitting on the couch with Titan, Mrs. Woolly's blind dog. Mrs. Woolly: Titan needs a new dog walker. He's blind and needs to be watched carefully. Hannah: I don't know... Panel 3 Suddenly, Titan leaps into action. He has trained for this moment his entire life. With grace and precision he moves a couple inches forward and plops himself right onto Hannah's lap. If there were judges in the room, they would give this action a perfect 10 and probably give Titan some medals, a trophy, and at least three slices of pepperoni pizza. Panel 4 Hannah: I would die for this dog. The pact is sealed. Titan has tired himself out with all that action and must rest to recover his strength. He is content with the knowledge that he and Hannah will go on many grand adventures together. Up the street, down the street, and maybe even around the block if they're feeling bold enough.

Titan - Gator Days

Panel 1 Polly and Gwen are hanging out. This simply will not do. Olivia rushes onto the scene with a mischievous plan to disrupt their peace. Olivia: GWEN! GWEN! I have a secret to tell you. Panel 2 Gwen leans in to hear Olivia's mysterious secret. Surely this will be something earth shattering. Olivia: My sister thinks you're cool and I do too. Panel 3 Polly has had enough of this nonsense. Reaching deep down in her soul, she comes up with a devastating name to call Olivia in order to banish her from this realm. Polly: Stop bothering us, fart breath. Olivia: WHAHAHA! Olivia exits. But the deed is done. The seeds of discord have been sown. Panel 4 Gwen: I think you and Olivia are pretty great. Polly: Huh? What did she say to you? Gwen: Can't tell, it's a secret.

Secret - Gator Days

Panel 1 Gwen and Polly enter the front door and are greeted by Penelope, Polly's mom. Polly: I'M HOME! We're going to study. Penelope: Welcome home! Panel 2 Penelope gives Polly a big hug. Polly feels awkward about these hugs but also appreciates them. Penelope: I'll let you know when dinner is ready. I love you. Panel 3 Gwen and Polly are now in Polly's room and and are getting their books out of their bags. Gwen is in a cheerful mood. Gwen: Your mom is great. My parents never do that. Polly: Mom is a big hugger. It's kind of embarrassing. Panel 4 Gwen: I meant they never say "I love you." Polly: oh.

Gwen (Part 1) - Gator Days

Panel 1 Gwen has arrived home with a plate full of burritos. Her dad is watching TV. I don't know what he's watching. I don't think he knows what he's watching. He hasn't been paying good attention to it for the past half hour. If you turn off the TV he will be upset. Gwen: Dad, I'm home. Gwen's Dad: So? Panel 2 Gwen feels an emptiness. She tries telling herself that this is fine. She tries telling herself that things could be a lot worse. Other kids have it worse. She tries telling herself that. She still feels hurt. Panel 3 Gwen is sharing the burritos she got from Polly's Mom with her brothers. She can still hear the TV from the dining table. It reminds her that her father is there and that he isn't there. She's shaken out of her thoughts when she notices she's received a text. Gwen's Younger Brother: My burrito is bigger! Gwen's Youngest Brother: That's not fair! Panel 4 The text is from Polly. Polly: HEEEY! Did you get home safely? Gwen: I did, thank you! Polly: I'm glad! See you tomorrow! Gwen: See you! Gwen smiles. The emptiness vanishes for a moment. She's so happy she has a friend like Polly.
