So the strongholds ended up far beneath the ground, to avoid being in oceans and similar. (Surface-detection was added for the end cities, much later.)

Lots of ideas! It's similar to the brainstorming sessions the team has. Then it's a long process of figuring out which ones of these that can be made, what "impact" they will have, and if there is a common theme. So there are seldom "bad" or "good" ideas, it's more of a range.

The problem was that flooded the translation site with "I want a cape, too!" people, which made the translations worse. Not saying that was the case for this person, but it's why we stopped giving out the capes.
