I swear here is getting as bad as X and Facebook for finding posts. I swear someone (maybe @garethaethwy.bsky.social but I may be mistaken) had recently mentioned listening to a Radio 4 podcast or piece about WWII related history. I cannot for the life of me find the post or the piece to listen to!

It's my first time interrailing. And I'm taking my parents along for the ride... 😂
I'm gonna need a second solo trip afterwards to chill. (That ones already in the early planning stages!) 😳

Photo by G. Solecki/A. Piętak of a small figurine of a bear carved out of amber between 9600 and 4100 BC. The amber is a deep translucent orange. The display lighting makes it glow in places. The bear's head is carved to show ears, mouth, nostrils and eyes. A hole runs through the bear’s torso, suggesting it was threaded onto a cord. Dimensions: Length 10.2 cm, Height 4.2
It was discovered in Słupsk during peat mining in 1887.
According to the museum catalogue ‘’Shortly after its discovery, the figure underwent conservation work to restore its original appearance as it was covered with a layer of dull patina from the exposure to the minerals contained in the peat. Already at that time, at the end of the 19th century, it was assumed the restoration had gone too far. The figure was stripped entirely of patina, the anatomical features of the animal were emphasised, the eyes and nostrils were sharply drawn, and the amber was carefully polished”.
In 2013, a competition was organised by the Education Department of the National Museum in Szczecin, for children to choose a name for the bear. The winning name was ‘Słupcio’,
A little bear figurine carved out of amber some 6,000 years ago 🐻❤️
A hole runs through the bear’s torso suggesting it was threaded on a cord, perhaps worn or carried as a protective charm.
Found in a peat bog near Słupsk, Poland, in 1887.

Didn't even care enough to make a poster for the event. Fuckin AI slop again. (not that I back any aspect of their event, but it shows how little they actually care)

Also, that's a steep price point for 2 episodes. I also have issue with the artistic licence on the cover artwork of T2 but that's just me being an autist.

A Mirror article seems to suggest it was USAF tankers (doesn't be specific) flying south time and location wise it matches up (reports in Leeds and Sheffield) but I'm not sure how low they fly to sound like a constant rolling rumble!
10.02.2026 11:56 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0
How'd you find that out? I glanced at flightradar at the time but nothing on there, but I wouldn't expect there to be if it was military
10.02.2026 11:51 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
Well, that was odd. Incredibly long loud drawn out rumbling that best sounded like a very large low flying aircraft but for extended periods of time outside in the sky. Circled away then came back, and is still rumbling on but in the distance minutes later. Weird.

Productivity increases between 5% and 13% with working from home, and worker wellbeing improves hugely too.
But Farage doesn't care about reality. Or productivity. Or your wellbeing.
He cares about the workplace property investors who bankroll him.

Other intl trains seem to be a lot more reasonable. Switzerland-Austria, Austria-Germany and Germany-Belgium are all less than ten euros each, France is like, 4x that.

Thanks! 🙏 Not done this before, and taking my parents in April, was looking at the 1022 TGV 9211 but it's £40-odd each on top of the interrail passes. Going via Strasbourg it's Inoui at £11 each there, and then no res on the SNCF Voyageurs TER from there. Just thinking about budget over the week!

Anyone here done Interrail or EU travelling? The reservation fees for French - Swiss journeys seem disproportionately steep. Should I be looking to travel Paris-Strasbourg-Basel instead of direct from Paris-Basel? I assume that way I'd only need a reservation between Strasbourg and Basel?
