Iron deficiency affects TWO BILLION people in the world but because they’re mostly women and children, almost nobody cares.

Had a great time getting on my usual soapbox at a fantastic #SABM25 meeting.

And if you don’t know about patient blood management, it’s very cool so check it out.

Several studies using LUS to guide diuresis have been positive, and it’s just as simple to look at, and has also been shown to be a good surrogate for LAP (though VeXUS plus LUS plus LV function and VTI is my own practice to guide decision making). This was poorly thought out imo.

Kudos to Stephen Colbert on his Emmy win last night. It was a pleasure chatting with him a few weeks ago on The Late Show about how rampant inequality has brought us to this moment in American history β€” and what we can do to fix our politics.

In 1900, 31% of all deaths were children under the age of 5. Today it’s 0.7%. Vaccines, medications, and modern science are the reason why. Trust the science, it’s been proven to work safely and efficiently time and time again.

After the Supreme Court decision restricting the use of race in admissions, the share of medical school matriculants from groups underrepresented in medicine significantly dropped, a cross-sectional study showed.

It has taken medical science 200 years to advance humans to the point where people are so healthy and living so long that they can deny that science and medicine is what got us here.

I feel like 2025 is more IVC plus VeXUS plus lung u/s plus echo (vti and E/e’ as a surrogate for wedge, specifically). But I’m a fancy boi, so.

Wow! France gifted her to us, and now they’ve captured what so many Americans are feeling on Independence Day. The values the Statue of Liberty stood for are no more.

πŸ“Œ A stunning mural of the Statue of Liberty covering her face was unveiled in Roubaix, France, on July 3, 2025.

With hazard ratios like this, it’s pretty obvious the study was underpowered. Curious why the authors didn’t try to amend it for additional patients after an interim analysis.

ZODIAC trial: For ischemic stroke patients who are awaiting thrombectomy, flat positioning reduced the risk of neuroworsening or death

Premature termination but seems reasonable

Statistically robust results

Best available evidence; should change practice

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

When interpreting this trial, it is also important to consider the pre-specified adjusted analysis [OR 0.89 (95%CI 0.79 to 0.99)] as adjustment improves statistical efficiency. This article explains the benefits of adjustment quite well. #emimcc jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...
