Fist of the North Star - anime licensing struggles - The Genesis Temple Fist of the North Star was a successful anime series which got many games, with few reaching Western audiences. What happened?

Three years ago I looked at how marketing and lack of licensing fumbled up the Fist of the North Star games.
They would have been an easy success in Europe in the 90s, but, with publishers trying to cater to a US audience that wasn't there, they ended up being mostly unnoticed.

I don't see a reason to celebrate a transparent PR move by a company that has engaged in the *exact practice* they're claiming to stand against, and which has *never apologized or been held accountable.* This is a "fool me twice" situation--I'm not giving them the benefit of the doubt again.

Winning on this means refusing to fall for it when proven bad actors try to convince us to trust them again without addressing their own contributions to the dynamics under protest. They're the ones to get mad at, not the people pointing out their shitty actions.

Not even remotely what I'm saying. I'm saying GOG has shown themselves remarkably willing to buckle under pressure to de-list games in the past and I don't trust them not to do it again in the future, especially when they don't address their past actions here. They still don't sell Devotion, btw.

Yeah GOG's track record on taking a stand against caving to pressure from reactionaries isn't what I'd call exemplary

The History of ScummVM - don't call it an emulator - The Genesis Temple ScummVM has been around for years in the world of preservation, but how did it come to stop being simply about LucasArts adventures?

It's been a few years since my interviews with the ScummVM team to compile a little history of this beautiful little program. Unfortunately, the article had since gone offline.
So, I brought it back while also adding some stuff that the editor cut about internal drama and legal issues.

That's a good way of putting it! I tend to appreciate the stories Winchester was part of more, but Burns was necessary for what the show was doing for the first half. Always thought it was impressive that Larry Linville recognized the show had outgrown him and bowed out when his contract ended.

I 100% agree, and I'd go so far as to argue that the characters who came on as replacements (BJ for Trapper John, Potter for Henry, Winchester for Burns) were all stronger than the originals.
