Can’t imagine how life gets better than this. But I said that after my first match at Kingsmeadow in 2019. Who knows what joy the Dons will bring me next!

I always say Marcus doesn’t give a fig about sports but he took the last three Saturdays off to watch the Dons get to, and win, the playoff semi-finals. Now he’s sitting next to me on this plane on a crazy adventure to watch the Dons at Wembley. Think I can finally say it. He’s a proper Don.

None of my friends would describe me as “spontaneous” because that would be wholly inaccurate. The lack of prep time for this trip, the sheer number of people, the unknown of it all. I’m terrified. But life is an adventure meant to be experienced, not observed. Let’s fucking go.

Crunched every number I can crunch and they all tell me the same thing: I’ll be watching from my living room this Monday. Won’t be alone, though, the whole family is coming over for a full English and a playoff win. Still, gutted is an understatement. Alas.

They kept threatening to build a plant for the company my husband works for in the UK and I told him, if that happened, we’d be moving. He asked: “Well what if it’s in Milton Keynes?” To which I responded: “You’ll take the train in because they have great public transit.”

When I was checking notes at the end of class I asked him “Are you really going to prom tonight?”

Without missing a beat he said:
“Naw Miss, I’ll be laid up at the house crying cause you wouldn’t come with me.”

I laughed so hard I snorted and then the whole class laughed at me.

“Miss, will you go to prom with me tonight?”

I responded:
“I have already attended one prom against my will. But thank you for the generous invitation.”

Student and I got into it last week. He wouldn’t stop talking while I was talking. Ended up getting sent from the classroom. Didn’t come back until today. First thing he says?
