Agree about alternatives but the alternative is not necessarily EU. There's other countries in NATO that are not in EU inc Canada and Turkey

If the cyber traffic, sea lanes and airspace are so vital to all of Europe, shouldn't all of Europe share the responsibility for protecting them?

That report doesn't provide any proof that the people murdered by the US were drug runners

New US nationsl security strategy powerfully advances national interestsโ€ฆof Russia. It puts the US squarely in the camp of the Kremlin-led ethno-nationalist (racist, anti-democratic) movement that includes Hungary, Modiโ€™s India, Netanyahu, etc. it is runs contrary to a century of US foreign policy.

Plenty of reports about this in Irish media

The headline, the main takeaway from a European viewpoint is this:

The transatlantic relationship as we know it is over. Yes, we kinda knew this. But this is now official US White House policy. Not a sppech, not a statement. The West as it used to be no longer exists.

Hold on to your hats - the EU Commission has fined Elon Musk's X โ‚ฌ120 million for breaches of its digital services act, including:

- Deceptive design of X's โ€˜blue checkmark'
- Lack of transparency of X's ads repository
- Failure to provide researchers access to public data

Concerning your last sentence, the UK needs the intelligence and defence capabilities of other European countries. Aren't these provided in the ambit of NATO?

The GOP has now gone full Nazi.

Never go full Nazi.

And, btw, I'm not the only one that's saying the GOP has a Nazi problem, it's coming straight from Laura Loomer.

They're doubling down on it, too.

Returning Nigerians countering emigration brain drain Millions of Nigerians emigrate annually but many also return, helping to bring new skills back into the country, Juliette Gash hears.

n Nigeria, 'Japa' is based on Yoruba slang for leaving, while 'Japada' means those who have left, return. In part two of her series, Juliette Gash reports on the lives people built after returning home

The new National Security Strategy of the U.S. contains some pretty explicit white nationalism:

โ€œWe want to support our allies in preserving the freedom and security of
Europe, while restoring Europeโ€™s civilizational self-confidence and Western identity.โ€

Does anyone think of the Trump administration and use any of these words?

Another modern political oddity, never has it been easier to find out what other countries think, but discourse has become ever more stubbornly national. www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/u...

H.E. Mr. Antรณnio Guterres
Secretary-General of the United Nations
New York,

Excellency,

I note that the Permanent Representative of China on 1 December once again sent a letter regarding Japan to your Excellency, which was subsequently circulated to the Permanent Missions of all United Nations Member States. As with Chinaโ€™s previous letter dated 21 November, the assertions contained therein are inconsistent with the facts, unsubstantiated, and are categorically unacceptable. Japanโ€™s position is as set out in my letter of 24 November addressed to your Excellency and attached hereto. Nevertheless, based on the instruction from the Japanese Government, I wish to share once again Japanโ€™s views with your Excellency.

Since the end of the Second World War, Japan has consistently respected and adhered to international law, including the UN Charter, and has actively contributed to maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order underpinned by the rule of law, as well as to the sustainable development of the international community. This unwavering posture of Japan is well recognized across the international community. Japan will continue, as a peace-loving nation, to contribute to international peace, stability, and prosperity, in full accordance with international law.

Japan believes that differences of views should be addressed through dialogue, for that is at the core of the spirit of the UN Charter. Japan will continue to respond calmly through dialogue.

We kindly request that the present letter, which explains the position of the Japanese Government in response to the letter mentioned above from the Permanent Representative of China, be circulated accordingly as an official document of the General Assembly under agenda item 120, "Implementation of the resolutions of the United Nations".

Sincerely yours,

YAMAZAKI Kazuyuki

Permanent Representative of Japan
to the United Nations

Trump's national security strategy is out and some of the Europe sections are shocking. "...the growing influence of patriotic European parties indeed
gives cause for great optimism."
