Out of curiosity, do you own a van and do you live near any dams? If so, I have a photo shoot idea for you.

Went for my normal 4-mile run today. Felt great, making good time the whole way. Wonder what the difference could be. 🤔 Perhaps the 20 degree temperature drop this week?

Hello folks!

I just finished up a contract Rails role this past month and I'm looking at new contract or PT/FTE Rails development roles.

Happy to work on full stack Rails development but I'm especially on the lookout for teams who need a growth or design-focused engineer on their team.

Yep! I have a few minor questions about it after working with it on this workflow lib, but it’s working!

Workflows are made of steps, which (when evaluated) should return one or more Active Job instances that will run in parallel. Workflows can also trigger child workflows.

I've been working on a speculative workflow library, built on a draft Batches feature for SolidQueue. 😅 I've been low-key obsessed with workflows lately, can't seem to help myself. Here's what the workflow interface looks like currently.

I'm going to be speaking at @xoruby.com Atlanta on September 13th. XO Ruby is a brand-new (traveling) single-day Ruby conference. If you're a Rubyist in the southeastern US, you should check it out! (And if not, take a look at other 5 stops this fall.)

The feedback loop is pre-existing tests (hopefully automated, though not always) that verify the understanding.

There's a kind of refactoring that is similar to reflective listening. The goal is deeply understanding what an unfamiliar system does. The practice is observing the existing code, and then responding "let me say this back in my own words to make sure I've got it."

I wrote some reflections on the flight home from the last RailsConf almost two weeks ago. I've just been sitting on them, feeling some reluctance to share. Maybe because I don't want to be misunderstood? Not sure. But I decided I'd share anyway, and hopefully it's meaningful.

Yeah, I like that! Though I don't know if it's blocking anything, it feels more like it's interrupting.

A friend on the other site suggested it might be something called "echolalia" which I hadn't heard of. Between the two, I think I might prefer mantra. 😅
