Something really cool from TikTok I’ve never seen before: Joan Jett in full Orioles dress practicing with the team. Does anyone have context on when this is from? My guess would be like the late 70s?

People on board with new solution to Toronto traffic that would limit cars on city streets Fixing Toronto's gridlock is now so high on the political agenda that the Province is ripping out brand-new bike lanes in a misguided attempt to get …

"Paris started with periodic, strategic closures of key streets, then day-long closures of the entire city center, always in the context of the conversation about air quality, livability & noise…It's a very smart way of doing it." β€” @brenttoderian.bsky.social in BlogTO www.blogto.com/city/2024/12...

Incredible.

Roland Reisley is 101 years old, the last original client of Frank Lloyd Wright. He still lives in the 3,200 square foot home that Wright built for him in 1952.

The price? $40,000. Or a little less than half a million in today's money.

What happens if you don’t do background checks or training for thousands of people and you give them all total authority?

ICE has been caught looting and destroying property at Pittsburgh restaurants. They even tried to break into the safes. They loaded food, supplies and equipment into vehicles

Requiring mass transit is good actually, and we should build it. Buses can do a hell of a lot and fast. Even moreso if the bus depot destination in the city has access to e-bikeshare for last mile trips on good bike infra (which can be done quick w jersey barriers)

Hackers Hijacked Google’s Gemini AI With a Poisoned Calendar Invite to Take Over a Smart Home For likely the first time ever, security researchers have shown how AI can be hacked to create real world havoc, allowing them to turn off lights, open smart shutters, and more.

NEW: In a likely first, security researchers have shown how generative AI agents can be hijacked to cause physical consequences.

They tricked Google's Gemini AI into turning off smart home lights, opening windows, and turning on a boiler.

They hid instructions to the AI in a *calendar invitation*

the thing is, the AI tech bros tell us to use AI for everything, then when you identify one it can't do (basic calculations which computers could do correctly in the 1800s), they say "oh well not THAT thing but it can do everything else"

If the federal government can simply seize privately held patents then that is the end of the U.S. patent system, the legal basis for American innovation.

Public-health experts dismayed by RFK Jr.’s defunding of mRNA-vaccine research - NPR

RFK Jr. is not qualified to be anywhere near any healthcare decisions for anyone including himself. He has a demonstrated lack of clear judgement in this specific area.

Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.

I'm gonna be honest, I don't really know enough about baseball to say. But I will absolutely take this opportunity to say that special event (like O's and Ravens games) light rail service is woefully inadequate. I can't wait for improvements there, from >3 car consists to level boarding etc.

I just wish weird psychosexual obsessions functioned the way they used to. 19th century weirdos aiming to end masturbation made us both a breakfast cereal and a tasty cracker. That NEVER happens today. Nobody tries to criminalize IUDs and accidentally invents a new kind of Milano.

It was what felt like the first nice weekend of the summer and I rode my bike 15 miles then my wife and I had a delightful patio lunch with my cousin and his family. It's a real shame we've had to spend the rest of the summer hiding from heat domes and lightning storms.

the USA built a system of higher education so good that smart/rich people from across the world came here, spending billions to learn here, subsidizing education for Americans while spending money to live in our cities and towns. our government arbitrarily decided we should stop doing that
