I'm gonna have a lot to say, whenever I'm done with this, about how SO much of Other M is predicated on only doing exactly what the game wants you to, when it wants you to. It's not just the narrative contrivance of Adam, EVERY design/mechanical choice is built around this constricting structure.

So I'd always just presumed that the Hell Run happened with Adam specifically denying Samus her Varia Suit functionality in the moment, for Reasons. But no, Samus just suffers through it with NO input, until he calls in at the boss fight and goes "Oh yeah, you should probably turn that on lol."

Her health is depleting in the extreme heat because event though she has the capability to protect herself from it, her big boss daddy Adam hasn't authorized her to use it, so what else is she to do? This bit is basically a super-annoying quick-time event string.
