An excerpt from the fic that reads: He wanted to meet in a park that was about halfway between the International Headquarters and the city of Prospit. They had agreed to the spot during their meeting a couple of days ago - it was a city nobody would be expecting to see them in, meaning that it was the best place to exchange information that they didn't want anybody knowing they had. He had either found something interesting about Vitruvian in his research, or he had some updates about Rose. Either were good things to know. Jade confirmed she'd be there in an hour or so, and she got herself ready. It took her a few trips via teleportation to get there, and it was especially tricky since she was going as her civilian self rather than as Lady Eclipse. People would notice if a super hero was considerably outside her district at some random park, but nobody knew the name or face of Jade Harley. Her unmasked face was the perfect disguise. Once she got to the park, she swiftly found John and sat next to him on a bench. "Hi John!" she said, relieved to see a friendly face. "How are you?"

"If you ask me, I think we should be considering the pros and cons of bringing kids into the business of being heroes in the first place. Like, why are you putting the weight of the world on my shoulders? I'm ten." Jade laughed at that, and she placed her hand over his. It was cheesy, but it made his heart skip a beat all the same. "You may be onto something there, Dave," she agreed, though her smile soon fell into a more serious expression. "I'm sorry about freaking out on you earlier."

It was one thing to hide his former identity from her when he hadn't touched it in ten years, but now that he was actively wearing the mask? Of course she'd want to talk to Coolkid again, and then it would basically be inevitable that she'd notice all of the similarities between Coolkid and Dave. He had considered running after Rose was taken down. It wouldn't have been too hard. Rose's weird power shit wasn't working anymore, so he could have easily just paused time and gotten himself the fuck out of there. But he couldn't do that to Jade. Now that she knew Coolkid was alive, it'd eat her up if he went and vanished out of nowhere. "Yeah." He shrugged his shoulders a little. He wasn't sure how else to handle this. He wasn't sure what to even say. Did he go for the apology right off the bat, or did he let Jade chew him out for being duplicitous first? Jade took off her helmet, letting them speak face-to-face, and it drove in the spike of guilt all the harder. He watched her face go through a whole range of emotions that he could only guess at. Shock, obviously, but he wasn't sure if that little furrow of her brow was anger or confusion or grief. He took a deep breath, and so did she.
