Epic moment, the thing evaporates just in time for him to realize they no longer can complete the quest because the worm no longer exists

I gave my D&D group (lvl 13 party) a side quest to hunt a monster and bring back its stomach acid to make a rare poison that was worth a buttload. I told them where they could find the creature but I didn’t tell them what it was, and they didn’t even ask. It was a purple worm of course. 1/
