First up: Highest 2 Lowest, which has some strong scenes, but is a bit too smooth for either Lee or the lineage of High and Low

The Fountainhead Rages Against the Dying of the Might — micah rickard Movie review of King Vidor's 1949 adaptation of The Fountainhead, a bluntly didactic film starring Gary Cooper and Patricia Neal.

King Vidor's The Fountainhead is a challenge to process, "an impressive work of filmmaking built upon a shoddy foundation... [it] makes bedfellows with its poisonous ideas. When it comes down to it, Howard Roark is nothing except an economic ubermensch. Raskolnikov, if he were an innate capitalist."

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is Lanthimos on the precipice: "There’s still substance and tragedy... but it arrives unfinished. Perhaps there’s even a fear of what the act of finishing, of following through on the ultimatum, would mean."

Looking for Justice in The Trial — micah rickard Movie review of Orson Welles' The Trial starring Anthony Perkins, a stark reflection of the absurdity of life, and a persistently crucial reflection on the nature of justice.

Orson Welles' adaptation of The Trial is mesmerizing. "The production and set design of The Trial are astounding and confounding in equal measures... To demand justice within this world is to accept it on this world’s terms."
