The new Wiley journal review system is an absolute nightmare. Editorial assistants have been replaced by a clunky, AI-enabled website that makes it harder to find and invite reviewers. Associate editor workloads have increased. I'm not convinced the invitations to reviewers are even going through.

Putting aside the question of AI personhood, a slur requires a history of dehumanization.

In order to fuction, the slur has to call into being that history of dehumanization for its injurious force. There is no such history for LLMs, regardless of claims otherwise.

It should anger all of us when someone implies that you can be eugenicist towards LLMs. In an age where a eugenicist agenda is being openly implemented by the US president, with the aid/direction of SV technofascists, targeting the most vulnerable among us around the world.

Unsurprisingly AI fanatics would so WRONGLY apply sci-fi because to do so correctly would require them to actually read (actual sci-fi literature and media studies essays)
and think critically. Not just have a chatbot give them a slop version.

You cannot slur a LLM or chatbot because they aren't actually human (despite how much techbros wants to pretend they are).

The metaphor here being how humans treat each other. That what much of science fiction is: stories about how to understand our world and human experience.

Toasters could be compared to a slur here because the point was to take away Cylons' humanity. It was able disparaging the code or computer program.

Let's take Battlestar Galactica for example. Humans called cylons "toasters" as a way to demean them. Cylons in this world were AI machines that did achieve sentience.

What's sad about the equating of epithets (clanker, spicy autocorrect) to slurs is that these AI fanatics are using science fiction to do so. But they sorely misunderstand the source material.

The point is to punish poor people using cash.
