This is why these discussions go nowhere. Because even when someone says "I agree with you," if they say "I think you've missed some nuances for some specific situations," you just insult them instead of saying "ok we agree in general - let's focus on making that part happen."

I don't drive.

I am not thinking of city driving. I am thinking of long stretches of rural road where, odds are, you and the car in front of you are the only vehicles for 20 miles.

On the off-chance that you're not, you should be able to get out of the way of the car coming the other direction.

If someone else is going notably under the speed limit, it's reasonable to want to pass them so you can go at the speed limit.

Passing on a 2-lane road means you're at risk while you're on the wrong side of the road. Reducing that time is a safety measure.

But still: a few seconds is plenty.

Depends on where they are in relation to you. If they're coming at you from the side, it's not a matter of "slow down to get out of the way" but "reverse," which takes longer and throws off whoever's behind you. Speeding up - for 1-2 seconds - could get you out of the way.

Passing on 2-lane roads may also want to allow short-term speeding - if someone else is going 5 mph below the speed limit, you could pass them; that's safer if you can go a bit faster to spend less time in the wrong lane.

Again - a short burst will cover that. I agree with the base premise.

I mentioned two - car coming from behind you, or from the side. Speeding up may be better than slowing down to get out of the way.

But those could be addressed by allowing a short burst of speed, nothing over a few seconds before the limiter kicks in.

But if public transit were greatly increased and we had more walkable zones - a whole lot of people would voluntarily get rid of their cars. There are plenty of possible improvements that don't result in "ban all private cars."

That's several steps farther away, and may never be entirely possible.

The plan needs to be "fix city infrastructure FIRST, then add a whole lot of public transit, then look at restricting personal cars."

…Right now, public transit support for disabilities is terrible.

Over 80% of the US lives in cities; that is the "real world."

If people's sense of self-worth is contingent on being able to break safety laws, they have problems too big for fast driving to fix.

And even if they're exempt from the limiters - they're required to go the speed limit. If they're the only ones breaking it, they stand out.

It probably wouldn't be hard to acquire an exempt vehicle - but once they're not the majority, any speeding is very noticeable.

Phase it in in stages. Start by requiring it on new vehicles and rental vehicles. The "three year lease" people will get the new limiters on their next lease.

Cars older than a certain age may be exempt, like older cars in Calif. are exempt from smog requirements. Eventually those will be rare.

1) Freeway speeds would be higher than inner-city. (Probably not as high as they are now.)

2) The fix for "I have to commute 2+ hours to work" is "we need more businesses with jobs in more communities," not "we need faster ways to work 100+ miles from home."

People can contest the tickets. It's inconvenient, but they can try to show evidence that they were going the speed limit when they were ticketed, or that the machinery is not working correctly.

If most people are traveling in the city at 30 mph because of the limiters, the one guy who's zipping around at 45-50 becomes very, very noticeable.

There are a few cases where "speed up & get out of the way" is the best solution. (Out of control car behind you; something coming from the side, etc.)

…And that'd still work, as long as you weren't already traveling at the speed limit. The limit needs to be a max instead of the average.

More likely, they'd rent a car or borrow someone's. (Even if their license was pulled. They just have to avoid getting pulled over for a week.)

Don't make them ride public transit; assign them community service at a hospital with lots of car accident emergency room cases.

Well, they've now locked down their twitter and the rules doc & FAQ, so I don't think they're going to get many participants.

It's possible they'll open them up again in a month and hope that the drama has passed them by, but I suspect that they'll seem even more ridiculous as October gets close.

This one has an AO3 collection, so they get to set the rules for that.

But yeah. This reads very much like "bring on the kink… but not any kinks that make me, personally, uncomfortable. No kinkfic about topics I think would be bad in real-life relationships."

Yeah. This list is much closer to an actual kink list, but… I have no idea what these people think a "forbidden pairing" is, that doesn't directly clash with their rules.

This isn't even Steam & Itch deciding "we don't want sexy games on our platform." It's someone else saying "we won't let Steam and Itch take money for things that have similar keywords to the games some group of evangelical fundamentalists declared are immoral."

The ban isn't limited to "games about sexual assault" or even "games that include explicit erotica."

It includes queer dating sims. It includes fiction about assault survivors. It includes stories about trans lives. Stories about teenagers falling in love.

And it's legal. That's the key point.

It's featured on the front page - as it has been every year in the past - but it's delisted in the "bundles" page. Both of the current featured bundles can't be found through the bundle search, and there are a lot of other bundles that have been removed from the bundle index pages.

Let them talk.

They allocate a certain amount of time for calls. They will try to get through their script and shut you down to make that time.

Interrupt the script, ask them to repeat things, request more detail - if they won't actually address the problem, keep 'em talking. Tank their KPIs.

Their prompt list includes extreme kinks like "Voyeurism" & "Roleplay" & "Breast/Nipple play" & even "Lovemaking."

Orgasms. One of their "kinks" is "orgasms."

They also list "aftercare" as a kink.

I don't think they know the difference between "kinks" and "things that show up in kinky fic."

They have an AO3 collection, and their twitter will be retweeting the entries they approve of.

…Assuming they stop restricting their twitter by October.

Of course, they can't control the hashtag (#CaitViKinktober25) so people are welcome to flood that with whatever content they like.

Also, the original adopters were wargamers. Later AD&D adopters were kids who loved the Sinbad movies and Bakshi's Lord of the Rings. They had entirely different approaches to the material.

I'm not worried about it, but I figured you should know in case people complain or get confused.

No steam key for me.
They're not normally included in bundle purchases (possibly for the same reason you're removing it - Steam gets upset if people can get them cheaper than they're available on Steam.)

I'm not seeing a Steam key, and I thought those usually weren't included with bundles. (Or is that a creator-choice thing?)

Thanks for the warning about the bonus pack; I often don't download video games right away because they take up so much more space than the TTRPGs.
