I’ve been gaming (ttrpgs) since I was very young, and my best advice to new players is to expand your horizons.

By which I mean, try different game systems!

There is a world of options out there beyond D&D (pun intended) and a lot of them are incredibly cool. So go give some a try!

Pity, I had fun with Veilguard. Although I probably come down somewhere in the middle on it. It has flaws, but it also has good things about it. It was a decent experience over all. One might call it impressive even given everything that went on behind the scenes.

Of Note - It's probably more accurate to say a world with "super people" in the sense that they have costumes and strange code names. There's actually very few powers on display. But that kind of makes it better to be honest.

It's made by Door Monster. It's a mockumentary style film about fumbling anarchists in a world with super powers trying to take down the wealthy elite. What it lacks in polish it more than makes up for in charm and humour. You can watch it on YouTube.

But that’s my personal feelings on it, and as you can see, I can't really say Rian Johnson was given much to work with.

If I try to look at Last Jedi independent of all of that mess, it was, in my opinion, a mediocre film. I personally found it to be a bit of a meandering mess filled with far too much slow exposition.

The strange middle ground they struck was just messy. And has yes resulted in people saying things like, "Luke Skywalker wouldn’t do that," because in C-Canon, he wouldn't have.

And all of that is just part of why so many Star Wars fans were upset. I personally think it would have been better if the films had gone their own way entirely or if they’d stuck more closely to C-Canon.

Rian Johnson’s film suffers from being stuck in the middle of this mess, acknowledging none of it, and trying to go his own way.

I feel it is undoubtedly true that he was unaware of the strange and poorly written fanfic JJ Abrams stuck him with continuing. But it was what happened.

Abrams persists with his strange, half-assed use of C-Canon in the third film, by the way. The Emperor cloning plotline is pulled straight from the Dark Empire comics (which were also controversial and arguably mocked by Lucas himself).

Rey Skywalker is a watered-down Jaina Solo, and Kylo Ren is as if someone read the synopsis of the Legacy of the Force novels (which were controversial in their own right) and made a particularly shallow Jacen Solo clone.

So why does this all matter? Well, first of all, Disney Canon in the new trilogy sloppily took from C-Canon, which up until this point had been the only canon to map out the world of post Return of the Jedi.
