To all the choir mums, who do the tireless work unseen to bring choristers to life; to the ones who used to be choir mums; the ones about to be choir mums;

I’ve been saying since the beginning of this admin that they’re going to start putting those statues back up. New Confederate statues would serve similar purposes to their boom time of 1900-20: statements of physical dominance of public space, designed to unite in-groups and intimidate out-groups.

I choose to believe I personally broke Twitter by owning the “Asking boys to sit down in English class” bros too hard.

That’s where my people are from - 1740s at the latest - and I spent my earliest years in Pittsburgh and 3rd grade through high school in Belmont County, OH. It’s endemic, and it is fed by the same people who then politically profit from the dissatisfaction it breeds.

I am currently incapable of interpreting any of this benignly.

Ghastly. I’ll watch today. I’m so sorry.

We also do not serve these communities well by selling them fairy tales about how the mill/factory is definitely coming back and they do not need to either move or adapt for opportunities, but I’ve been called an elitist for saying this.

Yes. Respectable white rural MAGA types will make endless excuses for why their relative on public assistance or w/ a substance problem is DIFFERENT than those degenerates in cities…and then you hear them talk about them when they’re not being pitted against people of color in need. Absolute hatred.

The thing that gets me about this, too, is that white/rural drug users are simultaneously used as a rhetorical tearjerking tool by the right but they *hate* them.

If you've lived in an area afflicted by opioids, you know MAGAs would prefer addicts drop dead before receiving, e.g., fent test strips.

Tesla stock has now erased all of the gains that it has made since the election.

Couldn't have happened to a better guy.

I recently got added to “Child Mutilation Advocates” on Twitter because I suggested A YEAR AGO that parents of trans kids should err on the side of being kind and supportive.

As a SFF writer who is very interested in religion, in fiction and in real life:

Any attempt to lay out rules or laws or even guidelines for "how to depict religion in fiction" has not thought the matter through, IMO.

I took a basic drawing class and most of it was "look at the thing. No LOOK."

WHAT? When I was seven and my mom had foot surgery, I remember how delighted my dad was to teach me how to roast a chicken, and how he told me that taking care of the people in our lives when they needed us was one of the greatest joys we could have. Jail for that pastor!

Oh, EWWWW. My BF accompanied me to my cousin’s very normie RC wedding and, having only ever been to a proto-tradcath wedding before (among RCs - he’d obviously been to other weddings generally), he said he spent the whole sermon waiting for the priest to tell them to have as many kids as possible. 😆

If Vance was Caesar he'd be posting stuff like: "Your kind sneer at us, call us villains, because the truth terrifies you: that this world, your world, is leading you to a future more wretched than any nightmare you could conjure. I offer something else. Something better."

However, I am miffed because I was in a completely useless argument with the world’s dumbest men, who apparently think being asked to read The Great Gatsby in high school is a human rights violation of the worst kind being perpetrated against American boys, and sometimes I like scoring cheap wins.

For whatever reason, springing forward for daylight saving time feels like a journal announcing contest winners without sending your rejection first.
