Jason is the founder and CTO of Network to Code and is leading the way in the evolving network automation industry.

After he gave his closing keynote "From the CLI to API and IDE" at #AutoCon3 about the transition from networker to coder, I had to find him and follow up with a few questions.

Jason was kind enough to give me a shoutout in his keynote, and included me on a slide with exclusive company including Ivan Pepelnjak, Kirk Byers, Eric Chou, Rick Donato and the late Nicholas Russo! I hadn’t expected that, and honestly don’t see myself being part of such a distinguished group.

Where would we all be, if it hadn’t been for Cisco’s innovations and ability to upskill an entire generation of network engineers?

Jason has had a long career in network automation dating back to the early 2010s, and talked about how Cisco networking and certification have shaped his professional life and the industry as a whole.

How does it feel to be shouted out in the keynote?

Thanks to Jason Edelman, I got to experience this during #AutoCon3

Because the people who invest in themselves today will shape the future of network automation.

If you feel like you’re on your own in this journey, you’re not. There’s a whole community out here that gets it.

If you’re in a place that doesn’t support that, you’re not alone. And you’ve still got options:

1. Push forward anyway (many of my best students did)
2. Or look for a workplace that actually invests in learning

The truth is, when someone wants to pursue a CCIE-level certification, they’re not just doing it for the title.

→ They’re doing it to solve harder problems.

To automate more. To contribute at a different level.

Over the years, I’ve helped hundreds prepare for Cisco’s toughest certifications. Some are fully backed by their employer who see the value and support their journey.

But sadly, many aren’t.

They pay out of pocket, using evenings and weekends to study.

What kind of workplace doesn’t support their people getting better?
