Gen AI doth remove commitment from art. Yf an artist ys committed to makinge somethinge trulye weirde, even shockinge, that artist doth neede to crafte the art, at everye steppe thinkinge, "Yes, Ich am drawinge a sexy C-3PO." Wyth Gen AI you kan make a sexy C-3PO wythout caringe, and that ys wrong.

Anyway, we need some joy, so here's the Egyptian foreign minister being given a Lego Pyramid by the Danish foreign minister.

It's also not often applied in the other direction, i.e. to the children of British immigrants, in Australia, New Zealand, USA etc. To take a purely hypothetical example, if you had a Scottish mother and committed thirty-four felonies, would Britain be expected to take you back?

It was also, for unknown reasons, the only time whole fresh coconuts were available in the shops. Nobody in 1960s Ireland had a clue how to open a coconut, so there was much deployment of heavy-duty ironmongery

In Dublin in the 1960s we had colcannon and barmbrack for dinner, masks, apple-on-a string (don't know if that counts as "bobbing") and extracting sweets from the neighbours with veiled threats. Our slogan was "Help the Halloween Party" rather than "trick or treat", but Halloween was definitely big.

The Musée du Moyen Age at Cluny is a treat - small, easy to get to and packed with treasures, including unicorn tapestries and great medieval stained glass

It used to be a trick question, in my youth - "which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of gold?" Of course you think "they're both the same ", but in fact it's feathers...

Troy weight is the system used for precious metal, as opposed to avoirdupois, which is the standard ounces/pounds/stones system. A troy ounce is heavier than an avoirdupois ounce, but a troy pound is lighter than an avoirdupois pound.

I've read that Charles Darwin loved to read while he walked, and that if a book was too heavy to carry he would tear it in two along the spine and just bring the half with him. If true, this makes me love him even more.

It's not all that unlikely given first past the post. Northern Ireland flipped very quickly from Ulster Unionist/SDLP to Democratic Unionist/Sinn Féin.

What sort of pastry did you use? "Galette" to me would mean a thin buckwheat crepe, but this looks more ... solid (not that that's a bad thing ...)

The person responsible for the gaslighting of thousands of people with ME/CFS with CBT and torturing them with graded exercise therapy, both of which were then tried again on Long Covid patients.
An absolute menace to the sick or vulnerable.

The idea that ME/CFS must be psychosomatic or de-conditioning because current testing could not identify a mechanism or marker is *precisely the same* reasoning error that leads to conspiracies like anti-vax or Q.
This is complex & I don’t understand it, so it must be this thing I do understand.

Long COVID Linked to Surge in POTS Cases
Researchers have found that postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) occurs in almost a third of patients with severe long COVID, making it far more common than in the general population. The study, the largest to date on the subject, showed that middle-aged women were most affected, with symptoms including dizziness, rapid heart rate, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

ME/CFS scored lower in quality of life than cancer, stroke & MS in one study. Millions, many post-COVID, are now disabled. This illness is real and requires greater recognition, research, and education. 💙Support these efforts today: https://batemanhornecenter.org/donate/
