I send out the Rising Report every other week. It typically includes content not published anywhere else, if you want more incentive.

In a small personal victory, I finished my newsletter for Thursday two days in advance (except for the section that will be about a hearing happening tomorrow). I was incentivized to write in advance because of other stories I have to write this week, but I'll still take the dub.

Yeah, I definitely brain farted on that one. Thanks for catching it!

Would Blau vs. GDOC not apply here?

I assume you’re not talking about ACPC. I’m literally in the courthouse.

Rest, glad you got them down.

We’re pretty sure this case is a misunderstanding of the Boolean operators and key words we requested.

First reported by @atlpresscollective.com, Atlanta City Councilmember Andrea Boone, daughter of Civil Rights leader Joseph E. Boone, filed a motion to ban warming centers from 1000 feet of a school Monday, when the entire city mustered two warming centers in an area of 134 sq. mi.

It passed 10-1.

Jason Dozier told the rest of Council he had two locations he wanted to use for his own any emergency services as situations arise, so he was the sole no vote.

There wasn’t a rationale given. Amir Farokhi originally said he’d vote against it because he had a center he thought was within the banned distance, but the city attorney said that center was fine. So he voted for it.

Same board. They’re supportive of the OIG, except for the Atlanta Business League representative.

I don’t think the gulch deal is under the OIG’s purview, unless some sort of illicit payment took place.

Right after I wrote this tweet, the Council reconsidered Cop City funding, and it passed.

18.11.2024 22:25 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Council voted to Fund PAD. Funding for Cop City failed to pass. Task force recommendations that would hurt the OIG were held in committee. A $1.5 million contract to a lobbyist was sent back to committee.

This is the craziest council meeting.

How to set your domain as your handle - Bluesky Using a domain as your handle helps with account identity, verification, and portability. Here's how to set your domain as your handle.

The Finance/Executive Committee meeting just concluded. Once again, the committee did not introduce legislation for a Policing Alternatives and Diversions Initiative contract.

However, I think it is exemplary of *one* of the reasons Harris lost: Dems follow the same anti-democratic playbook at Reps, and I think voters have picked up on it.

07.11.2024 19:26 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Harris lost Georgia by ~116,000 votes, coincidentally about the same number of people the Cop City Vote campaign said signed the referendum that the Democratic mayor of Atlanta didn’t let come up for a vote.

The referendum itself isn’t why Harris lost. (cont)

X stopped working on my phone, and the iPad app we’re forced to use on desktop is barely functional. This is probably a good day for that.

DeKalb saw about 2500 blank presidential votes in 2020.

In terms of percentage points, the difference is minimal, with about .05% more blank votes in 2024.

06.11.2024 13:44 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

DeKalb County actually released numbers for Cruz and West, so I’m speaking strictly of fully blank votes, not effectively blank votes in that county.

With about 4,000 fewer total votes in 2024 than in 2020, 1,751 DeKalb voters left the top of the ticket blank.
