PS Of course, I’m a little disingenuous, we can create fusion on Earth. The trick is getting more energy out than you put in.

This may come as a surprise, but nuclear fusion is already the most popular method of energy production not only in the US, but in the whole solar system. Only problem is you need a ball of gas with a mass of 1.989x10^30 kg (about 300,000 Earths). Apart from that, yeah, climate change, no problem.

Look very carefully and you can you see your future self looking back longingly through the tunnel and exclaiming, β€œRemember the good old days, back on the other side of the tunnel?”

And then, Jo Rabbit (metamorphed from the oh-so-inappropriate Lupo) and his plucky band of philosopher coneys (fleeing the myxomatosis that is British political philosophy) infiltrate the Warren, escape and defeat General Trumpwort on the slopes of Watergate Down. Get in!

Actually, yes. I have worked for over two years (with the OECD) on a proposal for a new UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for the space environment and space traffic management (SDG18). I’m about to publish some of that.

Hi Maya - the short answer is a resounding no. But a few of us are trying to formulate plans, models and technology roadmaps. A more disturbing issue is that the general population are unaware of decisions being taken by powerful commercial actors that potentially affect the future of all.

And…

Oh, do the Hokey Cokey
Oh, do the Hokey Cokey
Oh, do the Hokey Cokey
That’s what it’s all about.
You put your tariffs up,
You put your tariffs down,
Up. Down. Shake β€˜em all around.
You do the Hokey Cokey,
And you meet Poo-Tin
That’s what it’s all about.

Sad to learn of the passing of a true giant and hero.

I’m minded of Kerouac’s quote in β€œOn the Road” (it’s not his line): β€œWhither goest thou, America, in thy shiny car in the night?”

To illustrate the coming congestion in that part of space. Here's a simulation my group did, first graphic 2019, second near-Earth space in 2028. Red dots - inactive satellites, yellow dots - active.

8.8 magnitude tsunamigenic earthquake reported on Kamchatka peninsula, Russia. It’s worth bearing in mind early estimates of the size of large earthquakes are often too low.
