It really freaks me out that this happens. Like, I'm human and so I must be susceptible to this on some level but when I hear the media adopt right wing framing on issues it makes me mad at them, not more likely to agree! I don't get how this works on people.

I already answered that in this thread. I already agreed that racism was a factor. Sexism probably was too. Also the electoral system. Also her positions on Palestine and trans rights and immigration. I begged people to vote for her (I can't, not a citizen) but I still feel abandoned by her party.

What are you looking for here? The system is what it is, and that image you keep posting with the "if x% of Americans blah blah" does not line up with reality. I wish US policy *did* line up with public opinion on things like niversal Healthcare, but it just factually doesn't.

All of those prejudices exist in America. I am not denying their existence or their badness or the fact that they influence how people vote. What I am saying is that the electoral system in the US allows a wealthy, rural (and probably more racist!) minority to have more influence than everyone else.

Yes, somewhere between 56% and 71% depending on how you count who is white. That makes 0 difference to how voting, the senate or the electoral college works.

No, I'm asking you how the majority of the population can make the changes we want to see in government when the system we are working with is one that is structurally biased toward wealthy conservatives who live in rural states and the outcomes the system produces *do not reflect public opinion*.

How? How would those things be changed under the system we have?

3. The electoral college means someone can win the presidency without winning the popular vote.
4. The candidates we get to choose from are much more representative of the wealthy & donors than they are of the general population, because most people can't afford to ruin a campaign.

I mean, clearly *you* don't. Universal Healthcare polls at 75%+ but it doesn't matter because:
1. The way the senate works lets rural/red states have way more influence than they would if the system was based on voting population alone.
2. Gerrymandering is a thing that exists, look it up.
