Even during the worst events in my life there's these stupid little cheery things happening with absurd tonal dissonance, I feel like it's realistic to include strange little things like that.

There's heavily modified posthumans (such as ring drakes) and uploads/AIs. Won't be doing AIs gaslighting themselves into thinking they're a former human again because honestly that's what most of Aphelion already explores.

But have you considered that I am insane about rendering?
Just kidding, you're absolutely right on the establishing shots. But I'm also happy with some diffuse lighting tests so I might do that. Who knows!

Do these neotenous engineered animal people count as furries? That is up for the scholars to debate.

The "kitten" is from gengineered clade of incredibly unethically produced pets. Uplifted cats and bunnies and puppies that served as companion animals with few rights. Now that baseline humanity is extinct(???), they've taken over our technology.

This means the kittens have nukes. Good for them.

Prior image was basically a test of how time consuming the reflective armor would be, and YEAH. That's a bit too much work.

If you see a character with super shiny armor in my work, it probably means they'll exist for three pages and then die.

"If I have to be with the captain to be safe, then that means everyone else was not safe." Mittens hugged Mr. Fish closer. "So they're dead."

There was a pause from her guardian. "Yes."

After what seemed like hours, but what Mr. Fish assured her was only eight minutes, the blinking lights of a spacecraft came into view at the end of the runway.

"The captain is trustworthy, and will keep you safe," the Lioness rumbled as the lights danced in the reflections of her armor.

"No thank you, Mr. Fish." The network had never failed before, and her chest felt hollow as she tried to understand what it meant.

The Lioness simply clanked alongside her, taking one step for every six that Mittens took.

Was given the advice to start with only six colors (warm + cold versions of red, yellow, and blue) of the best watercolor brand you can afford and just mix.

Somehow I got the Arches paper at a yard sale for like 5 bucks. Practically won the lottery with that find.

Does anyone know of any living illustrators that are into math? Even as hobbyists?

I know there are tons of math nerds that also dabble in music (and vice versa), but not illustration.

Seriously, walk into a college math department and something like a third of the offices have guitars.

More comics should utilize optical illusions.

I think I'll go back to black and white movies after this, it's harder to parse apart the more complicated hues. Gorgeous movie though.

Referencing some still images from movies I like for inking practice.
First up: The Third Man (1949)

Worst part of drawing while referencing photographs of people is realizing that everyone has one eye higher than the other.

A digital painting of a pink-to-purple evening sky lit by blue stars. Nearly filling the picture is a huge purple-blue cloud, on which are sitting two semi-anthropomorphic walruses. One (Wynstan) is wearing a blue wizard robe and hat, and is pouring tea for the other (Wally), who is dressed in a red and black football/soccer shirt. Next to the pair is a huge hamper full of various tasty foods, surrounded by three large plates with puddings on. The whole scene is lit by magical comet butterflies, who swirl around leaving trails of greenish light.

Wynstan, the student wizard, has conjured a wonderful spread of food for the two of them to eat, and Wally is having the time of his life, being waited on by his brother. Well, it is his birthday!
