chatting with a friend about this today, for the sake of yapping: pals, what are worldbuilding things you love/hate to see? are there any particular bugbears you look out for? are you the "how are the armies fed" person?

this is how you get the variety of nerd who fawns over grey sludge tacticool blockbusters, but pisses their pants about raimi's third spider-man, or the phantom menace, or what have you. (not saying these are perfect movies, but a lot of them are Fine. SM3 is probably better than you remember, tho.)

silly/camp/comedy in general requires some level of vulnerability, which in itself requires emotional security. the ability NOT to go "if you laugh at the bat credit card, you're laughing at ME, a batman fan." "this makes my guy look stupid, which people will associate with me, the that-guy-liker"

the nerd who ties their identity to [x superhero] (who in a lot of cases is old enough to remember that being A Nerd got you bullied in decades before iron man was a household name) wants said Thing they've tied their identity to to be taken seriously, because /they/ want to be taken seriously.

this is, undoubtedly not a new thought, nor is it clean, but something i'm often reminded of is the amount of superhero flicks around the pre/early MCU era that were PANNED in nerd circles for the crime of Being Kinda Silly. Which i think stems from insecurity. walk with me.

THIS IS SOOOO REAL i'll stick a toe out into mardu, or perhaps orzhov, but the decks that stick around alwaysss are some mix of green/red/black. maybe i simply must embrace the villainy.

my toxic commander trait is that i cannot help but wanna build around glass cannon "it's gotta not only attack but often has to connect to do it's thing" commanders. huge obvious attack idiot swing out commanders. they're easy targets and less variable in their patterns. and yet. the siren song.
