Moved a bunch of HumbleBundle computering books, the recent StoryBundle books and a random selection of converted tutorials and articles (mostly with Firefox readability mode) over to the Kobo - looking good so far!

Let's load it up :)

Book cover of "Designing Data-Intensive Applications, 2nd edition". It has a similar wild boar on the cover as the first edition, but it uses O'Reilly's new cover design, and the boar is now slightly colourised.

The second edition of Designing Data-Intensive Applications, by myself and @chris.blue, is finished and sent off to the printers! Ebooks should be available in the next week, and print books in 3–4 weeks. Sigh of relief. πŸ˜…

First impressions of the Kobo:

Better UI than Kindle (pretty lean)
Nice and sharp
Kobo shop lists what/if kind of DRM

Now I just have to move the rest of the owls from owlery A to owlery B πŸ˜‚

I really hate about brexit and now trump that I would have LOVED to live for a couple of years in London and in New York - cities I consider interesting. It's really such a shame.

yes it is. it's certainly a lot of work and you won't get around if the service of a service is using AWS but there's lots of movement.

of course partially you are exchanging the US for China (anything hardware as an example)

but yes, I know several companies who are doing it as far as possible.

I have basically been replaced by AI slop at work thanks to the fact that I'm the idiot taking documentation, giving presentations, and sharing stuff in slack seriously.

Happy to be a knowledge cow to be milked.

so. I now have basically everything computering I'm interested in as books (minus one or two niche things) so I can now basically turn off the internet so let me quickly post this.. ;)

Scaling our Observability platform beyond 100 Petabytes by embracing wide events and replacing OTel Read how we scaled our observability platform from 19PB to 100PB and 500 trillion rows by replacing OpenTelemetry with a native ClickHouse-to-ClickHouse pipeline, embracing wide events and cutting CPU...

I really like #clickhouse, we're using it as well and I'm quite fond of "wide events" so this peaks my interest: clickhouse.com/blog/scaling... #observability

I remain deeply fascinated by software running for decades continuously and change over the years.

I might actually at this point learn #cobol.

I'm however still wondering if "omg there's sooo much cobol still running" is true for the EU - counter checking on e.g. job sites doesn't yield much.

16 clusters rolled out. rebuild, refactored, remade everything new, ported everything, made an entire new platform the last couple of months.

now I can roll out an "Observability Island" as I like to call them within 3 hours from zero to data ingestion.. πŸ₯³

I think I'm going to focus next year on #observability in context of better debugging and improving finding problems and testing more in the sense of probing. I really enjoy (well maybe "enjoy" is the wrong word haha) a little high speed debugging during incidents here and there.
