Mary it’ll be chaos. These people have no experience of running anything far less a complex organisation like a local authority, Councillors won’t turn up for meetings, will not understand the mechanisms of committee meetings and the decision making process. Open the popcorn and enjoy.

In addition to this what’s not been mentioned much is how staff at Reform run councils will want to work for such people. I work for a LA in a relatively senior role and would undoubtedly have been making plans to leave had they taken over my council. I suspect I wouldn’t be alone in that.

And turn up to the myriad number of committees required to legally run a council, make decisions on numerous complex issues and do all that whilst abiding by standards set by the constitution. They will soon tire of all that. It will be beyond their limited capabilities and intellect.

Indeed. I don’t have any sympathy for the people of Durham but I do for the Council staff who will have to work with these Neanderthals.
