Well, after all the hype around KDE’s birthday and plenty of angst about Windows 11, I blew away my Windows drive on my gaming PC and replaced it with Debian 13 running KDE Plasma on Wayland. So far, everything is working well. I may blog about what I needed to do to get some things working.

Open Social β€” overreacted The protocol is the API.

This is a great read about "open social," and a very good introduction to how the protocol that powers Bluesky works. At some point I might tinker with this myself. overreacted.io/open-social/

I still haven’t watched all of Stargate: Atlantis. As a fan of SG-1 and Jason Momoa, I realize this is a problem.

That’s unfortunate. I liked Chakotay.

Luckily, I’ve developed an ability to disassociate characters with the actors they portray them. Otherwise, I’d have a real hard time enjoying the Mission Impossible movies.

I eventually finished 2077, but had to resort to using WeMod for god mode against the final boss.

I don’t think I’ve ever played a cyberpunk TTRPG, unless you count Shadowrun.

Revisiting the Kingdoms of Stone and Fire by Ben Overmyer How I came to start working on Vox Draconis: Kingdoms of Stone and Fire again

I recently switched the manuscript for my current TTRPG project from LaTeX to Typst, and I'm pretty happy with the new tool so far.

Read about it here: benovermyer.com/blog/revisit...

The Summer of Translations A game jam from 2025-06-01 to 2025-09-01 hosted by manonamora. A summer to show off cool languages! The Summer of Translations is a summer-long

Community copies are a nice way to circumvent at least some of the hurdles. Sadly they are a very itch-specific messure.

FYI there's a translation jam happening right now. Engangement is low...but still, it was a honorable effort.

Oh yeah, definitely Heathrow for me. The chaos was stressful.

On the opposite side, the airport in Bangkok was probably the most delightful one I’ve been in.

Same. I adore the 1930s Errol Flynn movies, and I sure wasn’t born in the 1910s.

I loved the new Fantastic Four movie. I also loved the other three. Of the lot, I think the latest one resembled the comics I’ve read the most.

Godzilla: The Series surprisingly managed to correctly predict the advent of Gen AI in 1998, and had an appropriate lesson at the end of the episode.

Internet Roadtrip Let's take a streetview roadtrip

The Internet Roadtrip is now trying to cross Labrador. A 100-foot gap in Street View coverage almost forced them to turn back, but as they approached the break, someone got a friend in Labrador City to drive to the spot IRL and take and upload a panoramic photo to fix it. neal.fun/internet-roa...

EU Steps Up Civil Society Engagement On the Digital Services Act β€” Is It Enough? | TechPolicy.Press The European Commission is stepping up civil society engagement on DSA, but CSOs want more sustained involvement, writes Ramsha Jahangir.

As enforcement of the Digital Services act ramps up, the European Commission should consider creating an advisory board to leverage the expertise of civil society & academic experts, as Germany already has done, EFF’s @sveawindwehr.bsky.social told @techpolicypress.bsky.social.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

Finding information about Mithras is really difficult, since his adherents were secretive and didn’t leave any records. The closest we can get is the version of him present in Zoroastrianism, which is pretty far removed from the Roman cult.

My bachelor’s was in history. I just got accepted into a software engineering master’s program on Monday. There’s a twenty year gap between the two.

…and in all of this, I wonder if I shouldn’t have dropped out of art school in New Zealand, way back at the turn of the century.

The world got weird.

Probably because it was a traditional print run instead of print-on-demand. POD is way less predictable and way more expensive.
