Aside from her *insanely* hypnotic vocals, there is something about the chord changes in this song that is just sublime. What an absolutely incredible song writer.

She paid off victims. She publicly backed/supported him. She SHOULD have seen this happen before she died.

It's so mid-00's shlock horror that I now wouldn't be surprised if a Godsmack song plays over the end credits
18.02.2026 19:55 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I loved this up to the point where the girl spoke, and that snippet of dialogue has put me right off it.
18.02.2026 19:54 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And at the end of the day, that's all it is. It's not for me. I'm in no way saying the game is bad, or people who like it are bad, an no one should play it. I just don't get it, and that's fine. I am glad that it exists for people to enjoy and get them looking at indie games.
18.02.2026 18:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I feel like there is a middle ground where you can have room for emergent mysteries without it being as chaotic? Like actual context clues and optional clues that allow the players to interweave them with the ones that are hardcoded? I don't know. I just know CfB is too far in one direction for me
18.02.2026 18:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Mystery and solution are muddled here but you get the idea
18.02.2026 16:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So it's up to the players to say what the mystery is, which could be wrong, and then the GM has to have an idea in his back pocket, but shouldn't use that idea to steer the narrative because then it's just using the GMs mystery anyway and takes away player agency to create the mystery
18.02.2026 16:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But you could be completely wrong, and isn't it worse to be wrong by chance rather than wrong by using your character skills and own intuition and maybe misinterpreting the clues?
18.02.2026 16:18 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Tbh, I imagine people aren't playing the game for the mystery and rather the characters and setting, at which point why is it a mystery at all? You're wrapping a social game in a mystery towel which is fine if that's what you want to do but it's definitely pulling in two directions.
18.02.2026 13:03 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0How can you ask a shop keeper about what's going on in the town if only one clue has been found and the players haven't started to weave anything? If you drop something in, you're influencing them and maybe taking them to a conclusion they don't want
18.02.2026 13:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I am an improv GM. I am having a blast with zero prep Mythic Bastionland, but I think inventing a conclusion as opposed to discovering one removes elements of a mystery game entirely. How do you hint at unknown outcomes? How do you show the effects of it in NPC's and their interactions?
18.02.2026 12:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think, having written with a group of people before, your first idea is normally not the best. It feels great at the time, but normally wilts under further review. I wonder how many really satisfying, memorable conclusions have come from a group of 4-6 people hashing out a resolution on the fly?
18.02.2026 12:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My thing is that why play a mystery game if you're not actually solving one? There is a mystery shaped hole that you're cramming ideas in to until there's no sunlight coming through anymore and then saying "done!". I get the *idea* behind it, but it just feels really hollow to me.
18.02.2026 12:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You roll to solve the mystery, and if you succeed, your theory is correct. If you don't, it's wrong, and there are consequences, and then the GM has to come up with a solution on the fly.
18.02.2026 12:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0This is an excellent breakdown of why this form of "mystery" game doesn't resonate with me.

I watched the whole thing, and the guy is a salesman as I now want to read the PDF, but the PbtA games I have played(and especially the Brindlewood idea of make your mystery up on the spot) just don't work with me. Apocalypse Keys especially has put me right off them.

17.02.2026 23:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I didn't mind Solo so much. It just condensed his entire back story in to two days, which was so dumb. And obviously the "Solo" thing. Andor, Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka, and 2.5 seasons of The Mandalorian have all been very good. They just missed on things that should have been massive home runs.
17.02.2026 23:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's like a "do not press" sign over a big red button and no one being around to stop you

17.02.2026 23:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And it's a shame, as it has good ideas. It just didn't know how to do them.
17.02.2026 23:17 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Rewatched *some* of The Book of Boba Fett as 8 is watching The Mandalorian and we had to watch the 2.5 episodes of Mando in the Middle, and my god, the Mods gang is worse than I remember. That whole show is so poorly executed in every phase.
