to the nature of any final deal, as long as one was done. When you as a trade expert are tired of hearing about it is when the point first becomes salient with the public.

Actually, it's important that what "goes without saying" here is actually said, and not arrogantly dismissed as moral purity or mindless virtue signalling. Giving wind to unsound policy, as you should know, is how much of the post-Brexit discourse played out, and left public eventually apathetic...

It's been such a shit season otherwise, and the news in general and personally has been awful, so even the dangling of hope like this feels cruel. But you've got to dream, right? #COYS

Into the Europa League final! And another great away performance under very difficult circumstances. (But my goodness that penalty-scare at the end would have been very, very in keeping with this season.) COYS!

After his reversal on trans women post-SC ruling, I was reminded of Starmer's pledge to quit if his "Beergate" activities were deemed fine-able by police. I now realise this wasn't a bold gamble but simply how he addresses difficult problems: by accepting whatever the legal system says is true.

I wouldn't characterize Lynch *solely* as a conservative (in the above sense) film maker. There are more ways to view his work. But I think it's wrong to say this aspect of his work doesn't exist. (Though also wrong to claim it validates or advocates for a modern political tendency.) 7/7

Maybe, in fact, Dune is such a story: there are protagonists and antagonists, but no one is truly a force for good, only agents acting in their own interests or some divine plan that will kill billions (even the Fremen, though isolationist, seem somewhat morally grey).

and more inclusive structure.

The question then is, what is an "anti-conservative" film by this standard? I'm not 100% sure, because to a certain extent many stories anchor themselves to a sense of good/evil, even if the characters aren't openly depicted that way. 5/

The problem is that "conservatism" has become associated (through those who claim its mantle) with a reactionary clinging to the rigid institutions of society that mask the darkness underneath, while its antithesis (let's call it "liberalism") is about tearing up the rotten wood to build a safer 4/

that could be described as conservative. I think of this clip from Blue Velvet as an example of this: the notion of some source of love and goodness fighting the inherent darkness in the world comes up in a number of Lynch's works.

image of white picket fences etc. is a hypocritical facade that hides a sinister and brutal world of abuse and horror.

But I think that very stark contrast of rapacious evil with the goodness and kindness of his hero-figures (even if they are not "right-wing") is a central part of a world-view 2/

I haven't read the piece which by all accounts is pure bunk, but while the thread here dunks on it, I don't think it's incorrect to say there is a small "c" conservatism within Lynch's works, though not of the strain that seems popular in American discourse today.
