It’s a combination of exceptionalist mythology, (willful) historical ignorance, a lack of political imagination, a lust for bashing “the Libs” by portraying them as hysterics - plus a desire to flatter and accommodate power.
Nothing will make them stop yelling “It cannot happen here!”
But it can.
