My reflections on this positive event, it feels there's a real opportunity for us to shift the narrative on care. We're so keen to create a hopeful future full of abundance for all of us, it's good to see others feel the same.

It feels like there is impetus for us to push for a change in the narrative, an opportunity for solidarity across the many identities of care and as Marie (quoting Robert Redford) said hope can propel us forward.

The frustrating and damaging use of "crisis" that the media clings to, we recently explored this our latest Words of Affirmation podcast episode.

Lots of exploration of language, the problems in how it others us - "unpaid carer" is an example and Marie spoke eloquantly as to how it doesn't capture the myriad of roles she has in the lives of her family.

Great to hear @sarahronan.bsky.social speak to the problematic nature of economic model in how it has no value for care but also the risk we face from the far right that is already scapegoating those with a range of relationships to care.

The exploration of care as personal but not private, universal and scaffolding that enables us all to live well - linked strongly to our thinking on care as foundational - a little like we see health. Something woven through our life course.

It felt very resonate for our solidarity work to see a range of experiences - disability advocates ( @neilmcrowther.bsky.social ) unpaid care advocates ( @rohati.bsky.social ) & childcare advocates ( @sarahronan.bsky.social ) along with @abbyabhaya.bsky.social and those with lived experience.

Before I run off to eat lunch a few reflections on the @claremontcomms.bsky.social event today exploring how we create a society that values care. It's positive to see focus on the need to shift how we talk about care - in all it's forms to one that is universal. π§΅

Thanks, Richard. Care Full are referenced in this.
There's time for a new conversation about care that goes beyond the boundaries of health & social care to recognise care is part of all our lives and is foundational. Get in touch if you'd like to chat.

Thank you for this comment and engagement, Ruth, would recommend @richardhumphries.bsky.social work in this area, on what he calls social care's different "political and moral calculus" compared with health (service)

Thanks, we'd speak to care more broadly not solely social care. It is woven through all forms of care.

Great rallying cry at the end Prof Lydia Hayes that care workers are strategic community anchors, who connect and enable their communities with a wealth of knowledge & skills. Resonated deeply on a statement for those who are active "care givers" in many roles.

The recommendation to "Give care workers responsibility, platforms & roles in decision-making & leadership" resonated strongly with conversations we've had with many who have a relationship to care. Power holders - take note!

What was positive was seeing the amount of organising going on with paid care workers, this is despite the often isolating work & the anxiety about job security - especially for those on health visas.
18.09.2025 12:26 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
When we see the power of providers, important to reflect that care work in England has some of the worst working conditions in the labour market. Like care more broadly - political traction of care definitely impacts care workers. I'd argue this is the case for all those with a relationship to care.

This briefing proposes recommendations for successfully engaging care workers in organising.
I (Ruth) have just attended the launch of @centreforcare.bsky.social launch of their research into adult social care worker organising. A really interesting area, especially as Care Full is exploring solidarity in and across care. Thoughts. π§΅

The challenges for all those with a relationship to care are deeply complex. Whether in paid work or unpaid labour our economy marginalises us. We need solidarity across all relationships to care.
