The point is, these workers are temporary, and so are not entitled to the benefits which National Insurance covers.

Another Sunday, another attack job on a Labour policy from the Observer.

The headline says the school nursery policy has 'backfired' suggesting there could be fewer nursery places as schools ask some private nurseries to move out.

Rather than go straight to Twitter, Starmer picked up phone to both presidents. That’s the role he wants to play & is uniquely able to do so. PM will keep trying everything to get Trump & Zelensky into a better place, as he did in Washington, as he did last night & will continue to do this weekend

Starmer tells Zelenskyy:

"As you heard from the cheers in the street outside, you have full backing in the United Kingdom... that is the people of the UK coming out to demonstrate how much they support you and the people of Ukraine."

Exactly this. More than enough hysteria and histrionics from the White House and media without Starmer adding to it, and throwing social media grenades won’t help anyone, least of all Ukraine.

Level heads, pragmatism and subtle, sensible diplomacy are exactly what’s needed right now.

The PM has spoken to Presidents Zelensky and Trump tonight. Number 10 spox says:

"He retains unwavering support for Ukraine, and is doing all he can to find a path forward to a lasting peace based on sovereignty and security for Ukraine."
