I worked in Australian Neoproterozoic (1000-541 Mya) rocks for the month of July. But never really got into the Ediacaran formation, famous for early life. We did hike into rocks of that age one day and found two pieces of float with worm traces on ripple beds. Uncle Toby’s for scale.

These bell flowers are one of my new favorites. Such a nice purple color and the unopened buds have this great pentagonal shape. (Also I’m back from Australia and working on new episodes)

The last of the Gneiss Boxes sold quickly after the diamond and coal episode came out and I shipped the last of them out today! I mean, they have and an outfit called baguette that you get from fighting mimes and the Eiffel Tower is prominent. So probably a oui oui but almost a sacre bleu.

Completed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and wow that was a moving story. Wonderfully done and an enjoyable game all the way through. Such an interesting world and combination of traditional RPG, action and character mechanics.

You always think of orchids being tropical plants and then you come across some pink lady slipper orchids on the side of a trail in the middle of Wisconsin. (Cypripedium acaule)

Did some bog hiking in the middle of Wisconsin. Was really pleased to see some pitcher plants in bloom and some little sundews along the path. #bogwalker

Radiolarians are another micro organism that produces opal skeletons. A rock with a high amount could be called radiolite. Radiolarian shapes are commonly used in sci-fi.

I’m not familiar with radiolite in geology but we make up words all the time. Diatoms are a microfossil that produces opal support structures for their soft parts. We call rocks with a lot of them, diatomite.

I guess not directly like that. I have wanted to do a sort of geologic review of the game to talk about about my opinions on how it does things and how I would change them while still staying within the possibility of the game engine. Part of that would be creating something like you are suggesting.

Went on a quick road trip to get some footage for an upcoming episode and stopped at Ableman’s Gorge near Baraboo WI. I was always impressed by these 1.7 billion year old ripples preserved in quartzite that are now a vertical wall. They were one of my early exposures to geology and deep time.

I’m writing all the thank you cards for the gneiss boxes and it’s giving me flashbacks to studying for spelling test writing the words over and over. It didn’t help, I’m still miserable at spelling.

While working on the geologic timeline project I was scaling Minecraft mobs to more appropriate sizes and it reminded me of a paper that quantified all of Earth's biomass, so I remade the figures in game. Yes I know starfish are not cnidarians.

Troubleshooting an issue with our isotope ratio mass spec today. It’s always fun to see things that look like science fiction when you are doing science fact.

It would be interesting to plot the recommended colors into a color space like oklab and see how evenly they are distributed. The goal should be to maximize distance between the recommended colors and then some guidance on changing brightness or saturation for smaller increments or something.
