To be honest, it puts me off a bit too. I much prefer Elder Gods and cosmic horror. But I do love the passion people are showing for the game and its aesthetic. Maybe it’s a zeitgeist thing.

Same with Trench Crusade. Every other post you see is someone posting their TC warband, and a lot of it is 3rd party or kitbashed. That creativity is good for the hobby. Your army being behind a $600 paywall… isn’t..

Also add to the mix One Page Rules Firefight skirmish, which is basically kill team but use whatever minis you want. There’s also a fantasy version. For me, miniature agnostic is the future. Not going to make these companies billionaires like gw, BUT it feeds into the wider creator community 👍🏻

something like Company Of Heroes I guess, would fit the setting and small squad setup. a Total War version would be great, but TC isn't set up as a massive wargame

wargames are expensive if you go the "you need this army with these exact models, and these expensive books that we require you to buy every time we update them".

Trench Crusade was designed to be the opposite really. you can print out the rules and then DIY everything else. it's encouraged.

yeah, also you can make terrain from foam or paper-mache and use whatever models you want, even dollar "army men" from the supermarket. TC is essentially a free game, as long as you have some dice

Demons from Hell have taken over 1/3 of the world, and the Armies Of God are fighting them and trying to push them back into The Pit.

And Christianity didn’t “take over the Earth”.. just the parts of Europe that were historically Christian.

Honestly I’d play against someone with some small plastic zombies with matchsticks for rifles as long as it was game on. We need to get out of the GW mentality honestly. It’s sucking people’s souls (and wallets) dry 🤔

given that in the Trench Crusade universe they have a space program and jet fighters, I wouldn't worry too much about having slightly more advanced rifles. as long as we're not adding plasma pistols to the models, it's all good.

instead of focusing on the lore, focus on open aspect of the game. Totally free rules. design your own factions. your own minis. print them yourself. all "competition legal". it's a new, modern way of making a TT game. so even if the lore isn't your cup of tea, got to applaud them for that.

its a game where a handful of plastic minis fight another handful of plastic minis. dice is involved. as well as over the top-ridiculously gory parodies of real (and not so real) world historical stuff. You're not supposed to take it seriously. unfortunately, 40k became the cult it parodied
