More please! Let's make California a refuge for those in the sciences that are making the world a better place. Let's invest heavily in this as a state and bring more smart people here (especially from red states).

I wonder what it would mean (and if it were possible), for a state to become so powerful, that it can no longer be constrained by the nation. Perhaps California should aim for that (whatever it is)

If there's one thing I've learned under trump, it's that the laws and norms don't really matter. In that light, the State of California should create its own currency.

Perhaps a single class in high school that just covers a wide range of essential topics would help solve many of the problems we face in the US.

And yeah, I know there are probably insurmountable challenges with a state collectively withholding taxes through a state agency, but fun to try to find an angle or loophole.

Good point on withholding, as a self-employed person, I'm used to having full control of my taxes (without a business withholding). The legal side of it is important of course (which I noted in my post), it would just be an interesting setup if the feds had to go after 36 million of us (CA Pop)

Very true, I'll have to research to see if there are any good listings out there that compile that information (I'm sure there are some). I'm sure I won't be able to fully support only those who align with the world that I want to see, but still worthy to do the best that I can.

As much as possible, I think I'll be only supporting companies from blue states (whether buying products, or investing), and restricting my travel to only visit blue states. It's not really a boycott, but more of a thought of what do I, as a citizen, want to support.

We're the fourth largest economy in the world. If we include Washington and Oregon, we're #3. Just sayin...

As others have mentioned, there is no way to do this currently...but I've been thinking of some state-run filing system, where the state releases everyone's tax payments (or not) at once, on behalf of the tax payers (or perhaps citizens could even opt into). liloqi.com/collectively...

If America survives all of this, we need to remember that 77,284,118 voted for this chaos. We have to find a way for the sane portion of the country to push forward without that very large group of people pulling us back.

For Democrats, I honestly don't think the message really matters. We really just have to find a way to get the message and information through the conservative bubble. Doesn't matter how great the message is if they never hear it.

And I'm sure they will all see it as the democrat's fault, because that's what they will be told.

Love it. And we should be poaching as many gifted and intelligent people from red states as possible -- I'm sure there are plenty of scientists and researchers looking to continue their research into technologies that matter (fusion or other green energy solutions, health research, etc...)

I've been thinking about this quite a bit. Obviously a difficult problem since we all pay federal taxes separately, but maybe there are some loopholes out there.
