Public servants, historians, and frontline interpreters are trained professionals who do everything in their power to connect visitors with the stories which make up our complicated national fabric. Yet we are consistently in the crosshairs of those who are waging war on history and intellectualism.

Just like in the parks, safety comes first.
- Stay with your group
- Follow the signs (or in this case, the facts)

- Document everything

Almost a year after a brilliant research trip to Belfast, conducting oral histories with folks who were so generous with their time and story, and a major job change I think I’m ready to start writing again.

I haven’t been a member of the AHA for a number of years and I am happy to not have wasted my money.

What a cowardly act.

If it's possible for a civilization to die from a widespread loss of empathy, we're witnessing the death knells in real time.

I have no idea how the AHA membership breaks down on this issue but I will say that refusing to adopt a position specifically because you fear the wrath of a political party is not “staying apolitical,” it is making an explicitly political calculation and basing your organization’s position on that.

It’s the worst! And if you are lucky enough to get funding from a university its almost alway through reimbursement so you are out $1000 plus until paperwork is sorted

Bless her puppy heart! Watson was less than pleased to be on the road at 4am, but she was the ideal travel buddy nonetheless. 💜💜💜
